Sulbutiamine and ALCAR may both help to cope with increased neuronal energy demand, that's why each of them may be a solid basis of any nootropic stack.
I wouldn't advice to go any higher than 1-2g/d of ALCAR, though, since higher doses might increase ROS generation, which in turn might invert the benefit to risk ratio of this otherwise safe compound.
I would also strongly advice to cycle any of these compounds on and off.
Beyond that, it's really totally up to your individual brain chemistry what may additionally help you and what wouldn't.
Some people benefit from vasodilators, e.g. vinpocetine, others get massive headaches from it.
Same goes with the racetams: some people may get notable effects, others will get dizzy, many won't notice anything.
There is a general rule: the better your cognition already is, the less effect you will notice from cognitive enhancers. If you are already at near optimum levels, adding an "enhancer" might even worsen your performance.
For me personally, xanthinolnicotinate and ALCAR give me a nice boost, which I simply notice as the ability to sustain focus over a longer period of time (delayed fatigue).
Of course, many people with ADD-like symptoms may respond very well to stimulants. I remember when I had been taking slim fx which contained a hidden stimulant, it almost destroyed my working memory, while many folks praised how zoned and focused they all got.
Very well said.
What do you (on any one else) suggest for me? I've always had success with Focus XT + 1g ALCAR, so I typically don't stray away from that to often. I'm not a huge stimulant user, so extra stimulants I've found are a no-go. How about adding Picamilon to that stack?
An ultra rare, and very wild, Dr. P appears!!!

I use ALCAR 2 months on, 1 month off. I add about 1g to Focus XT, therefore I'm somewhere in the ballpark of 2-2.5g daily.
I've been a fan of vinpocetine. It's hard to fully tell its beenfits when used in a comprehensive product like Focus XT, but I also noticed a nice boost when using iForce Compete.
ALCAR for me does as you say; sustained focus and cognitive function. I also notice an enhancement in vocabulary. I find the word I'm looking for much easier, which has aided me during presentations and interviews.
I don't present any symptoms of ADD. Over use of stimulants have always caused me anxiety, which I'm assuming is attributed to an overstimulation of neurotransmitters.

I've been hearing that carnitine, and thus potentially ALCAR, may have some negative effects on thyroid availability or absorption from thyroid supplements. Anyone here heard of this/have more info or experience on this? Seems like most of the stuff I have found has been pretty anecdotal or speculation, but there is a lot of talk about it, so just curious.
Also, just ordered more Piracetam, as well as some oxiracetam today. I had taken piracetam for a couple months about 2 years ago, but without a choline source, and experienced little to no benefit. Retried it starting a month ago along with Alpha-GPC, and seemed to work better. Also started ALCAR at the same time though, so it's hard to tell which was doing what. In any case, i'm looking forward to continuing Pira for a while then trying the Oxi instead... What are peoples experiences as far as the differences between the two? Seems like most people agree Oxi is more "potent" than Pira, and has a more "stimulating" character as well.. i'm interested to hear from anyone who's tried both separately for any significant amount of time

Thoughts on Tyrosine vs NAT? Also, anyone ever add Ginkgo or Rhodiola Rosea to your nootropic stacks?

Tyro > NAT and yes to the last two.

Where are people buying their noopept? I was going to get a 10g batch from Cerebral Health, but have been reading that their most recent "batches" have been questionable. Thinking I might try either some reputable Ebay seller or newstarnootropics.com.. figured i'd see what people on here were doing

So i've just started hearing about L-Theanine more and more, and read this description from a user on r/Nootropics
"In my perception, L-Theanine is sort of like taking a remote control and knocking down the volume inside my brain from a 25 to a 3. You feel a sort of peaceful quietness that isn't normally there, so whatever you're working on becomes your focus. Your ability to really dive deep into something remains strong for much longer. I was able to all but 1 or 2 items knocked off my list once I was able to focus on my work. (damn scheduled meetings always ruin the vibe, though)"
Has anyone had this effect from L-Theanine? I have a HUGE problem with that "noise" or cluttered thoughts while trying to focus on something, so If this is the case, I am about to go pick some up today.
-
I don't think L-Theanine is some sort of miracle supplement for focus. Is all the noise you're talking about related at all to anxiety? If so, may want to look into something that's a GABA agonist.

Most definitely is related to anxiety at least in part. I picked up phenibut last week, took for a couple days in a row before doing my research and realizing I need to shop around for something I can use more frequently. I also wasn't studying while taking phenibut though... i was on my last few days of spring break, and using it to calm my nerves the last few days of break. So i'm not sure if it will help me or just make me want to give up.
Would you suggest Picamilon?

Anxiety is something that can and should be treated without supplements/drugs. However, I've used Picamilon and it seems to relax my body, but not alter cognitive abilities. In fact, Picamilon should increase cerebral blood flow causing a nice nootropic effect.

Picamilon is worth a try. It's going to take a lot of experimenting on your part.
Aniracetam definitely helps me. Although my presentation anxiety is severe enough where I need a ***** to get through it.

Read the theanine bit in the Origin write up, under rated supplement in general

I agree.. I am working on it. I always set aside at 2-3 hours minimum to relax each day, i exercise, eat well, etc. It's just nice to have something to help out some days. And i'm particularly curious to see how an anti-anxiolytic would help with my focus and ADD. Thanks for the info though!

I haven't tried ani yet, i just started some oxiracetam and have taken that for 3 days now. ~800-1000mg + Al****PC, so i'm not expecting any anti-anxiety effects from that.. but Im getting some noopept in a couple days as well, which seems to have helped a lot of people with their anxiety much like Ani.

Aniracetam also seemed to help me relax and be slightly more open, socially. It was subtle but noticeable. I wasn't really expecting that effect, so I wasn't looking for it. I've used both A-GPC and Citicoline with it. I haven't distinguished a difference between the 2 yet.

IMO citicoline is more of a feel good focus likely due to it's various effects revolving around dopamine

Yeah im pretty stoked to give noopept a go. I have a good feeling about it, and have been reading nothing but great things about it.
I think I may be picking up some citicoline today as well. I only have one more day's worth of al****PC, so might as well try something else.

Was skeptical at first as it seems a new awesome nootropic comes out every few months and they all tend to be let downs. Noopept is amazing though, the effects will vary though depending on the individual but most people should notice an effect. Watch out for bunk sources as well

I got mine from Newstar Nootropics, after looking around for a bit it seemed they had good reviews. Made a mistake on my order and customer service was great to respond, so thats good. Heard their products are high quality too.
As far as the citicholine, what dosage have you noticed the best results from?

Citicoline is really nice up around 1g but studies commonly use doses of 500mg-2g.

The most important thing is that you take it consistently for a long time. Otherwise, you're shortchanging yourself on its ability to positively influence phospholipid metabolism

Picked me up some ALCAR today. Going to start building me a good noop stack. Is 2g ALCAR a good daily dose? Empty stomach?
EDIT: just read Dr_P's post. I'll start with 1.5g and work from there..

I don't really know anything about nootropics, but I've seen Modafinil get a lot of attention lately.
Looks like it hasn't even been mentioned in this thread so far. What do you guys think of it?
I hear it's great for wakefulness. I'm looking for that kind of effect, plus focus/energy.
i would strongly recommend that unless you're a vegetarian or vegan, there is a potential risk from taking L-carnitine, lecithin, choline or betaine supplements in an attempt to ward off cognitive decline or improve fat metabolism
I know this isn't the supp trading thread but I didn't know if that would be the place so I'm just gonna throw this out there. Is anybody interested in an unopened 10g of Pram from New Star?
