In on new threadz. In other news I bought a Springfield armory xd40 with a 4" barrel. Came with carrying case, holster, 2 magazines and a cleaning kit. Also had to only pay for tax and 25 dollar DROS fee. Total came to 498.02. Not bad at all huh?
Looking for ammo now do you guys have any suggestions or could help me out with choosing the cheapest but higher quality ammo? Thanks bros
There will be less demand over time as Obama's second term gun ban takes hold and all the pre-ban guns wear out.
I keed I keed.
There's actually a case to be made that once election panic buying subsides, and more manufacturing capacity currently directed at supplying military operations gets re-channeled into the civilian market, prices will come down a bit. I wouldn't count on it though.
I have heard that argument made, yes.
And no, I wouldn't count on it. There still seems to be a steady increase in civilian demand plus the raw materials are getting more expensive.

My XDm shoots just about anything without issues. I've shot a lot of Blazer brass and steel cased which in my area is pretty cheap. Not sure about .40, but Federal has loose pack 100 rd boxes that are pretty cheap and good quality.

That's good to know I actually heard the opposite from Blazer but glad to get a second opinion and not out rule it. Maybe I'll buy a 100 of 2-3 different brands?

American Eagle is good sh*t that won't break the bank. At least in 9mm. I don't shoot .40 but you might do well to check it out.

that is what happened with the last election and it will probably happen again unless a ban actually happens

That's a good idea, make sure you and the gun like it before you stock up. I don't care for wolf and tula...both seem to produce an unnecessarily large muzzle flash. Its distracting.
If you are looking for a personal defense bullet I'd look into Speer or Hornady.

I've found this true with 9 and 223, so it would surprise me if it was different for .40.

Decent practice/range ammo for semi auto handguns will include the likes of:
Winchester White Box (WWB), which is just Winchester that comes in a white box, best prices at Walmart.
CCI/Speer Blazer (aluminum case) or Blazer Brass. The aluminium case is in a black box, the brass case box is black/gold.
Remington/UMC. The box is green/white.
The cheap steel case russian stuff (tulammo, wolf, brown bear, etc) should be fine for range use as well.

Anyone reload this brass? I loaded up a bunch in my buddies dillon, brass was very soft, stuck to the dies, left brass flakes errwhere. Shot fine in the gun but wasn't anywhere as smooth reloading as the Federal and PMC I'm used to.

Its because I am an illinois resident no doubt. Everytime I order I immediately email their confirming they still have my license and FOID on file so my order doesnt get held.
Oh well moving on in life. I need to stay off the arfif forum. Those pic threads make me want to spend money i shouldnt

Yup, .40 UMC stuff felt like play-dough in the resizing/decapping die, and if you set a bullet in even a little crooked you end up with a crushed case. I think I bought a 250 rd. pack of that stuff a while back when I had my XD, and I tried to weed out all that schitty brass from my stash, but every once in a while I run across one.

Holy schit, that guard has balls.

So I think I'm going to start with 2 brands 100 each.
100 rds - .40 180 grain bonded HP Winchester q4369
100 rds - .40 180 grain JHP Federal classic hi shock hollow point
Goo choices to start?

It should run all target ammo fine, mine was picky with some self defense stuff. (Hornady)

self/home defense yes, I wouldn't waste money on HP's for range time though if that's what you're after.

I've made three orders from them, if memory serves me right. Never had an issue.

Agreed. Winchester and Remington FMJs are my go-to. Competitively priced without having to stoop to the dirty, foul stuff.

It's the cheapest I found so far for 100 rounds each. That's the only reason I chose it. Comes to 80 bucks with shipping for 200 rounds. Don't know if that's good or not

Nothing available locally? Not even a Wal Mart? Look for full-metal jacket, typically considerably cheaper than hollow points. That said that's actually not a bad price for hollow points
-
There is but not close by. I'm not a fan of wal-mart. Plus I can research a good price online from multiple different companies.
