I personally never have issues at work. I receive a lot of respect from all levels, from vice presidents to hourly employees. They admire my dedication to my bodybuilding and the fact I demonstrate the same drive at work that’s required for bodybuilding. I never considered meal timing to be critical, so a protein shake in my coffee cup occasionally through the work day satisfies my protein requirements.
No doubt. In my youth I worked at some big companies and there's a need for a lot of rules. That's probably why I gravitated to my profession and why I eventually went out on my own. But, I doubt anyone in the technical trades would stick around long if they had someone clocking their breaks or monitoring their food intake. Most programmers are too weird and too paranoid to put up with it.
Remember that regular people see us programmers as alien creatures as it is, and it all falls into place. Not to mention that programmers are among the most sought after professions in the world today, and it makes for a recipe where you can do almost anything you want.
For instance, on my last contract, I worked with a guy who would go eat lunch at 11:30 on the dot, no exceptions. He even walked out of our weekly status meetings a couple times when I went too long, and no one even batted an eyelash!
God, I love being as weird as I want... :)
