Wow.....I finally found someone else who likes the Nautilus soft pads. I think it helps me keep a solid base for benching.
^Nice Proton!
They look identical to the Ivanko's.. even the paint.
I need a pair of those myself.
Cheers mate, second set should be arriving today. As expected they worked well the other night. I've been deadlifting with spring collars for far too long.
These babies arrived in the post today. Alex olympic compression collars. The are pretty much identical in design and quality to Ivankos except they are half the price. I don't think they are made any more (under the Alex brand anyway) but any info anyone can give me will be appreciated. I posted the question in the Ivanko forum but so far its had no responses. I remember someone before saying that Alex plates were made in the same factory as Ivankos so there is a good chance these are one and the same. Either way they are beautifully engineered, so much so that I bought the sellers second set off him too. We have the same ones in the fire station gym but they are chrome, and they have survived many years of use and abuse, its deadlift day tonight so I'll be putting them through thier paces in a few minutes.

Great buy grandpa, you can never have too much weight storage. Thats another thing I like about HS gear, it has storage options all over it.
I picked up some more fractionals today for about a third of thier retail value. A little bit of corrosion on one of the .5s but nothing that won't polish out. They now fill up the top horn of my rack nicely, although they'll spend thier lives on my preloaded bars. Thats all the fractionals I'll ever need.

Hey P&I, what did you do with the plates that were on that top rung before the you put the fractionals there ?
Nice purchase btw :)

Cheers 2dog. When I designed the plate rack I spec'ed it with 8 horns instead of the usual 6. The top two are just for fractionals, collars, and I sometimes hang my straps on it. Because these are only small items I didn't need to leave much space between the small plates below. I've never seen a rack for sale that has this setup which is one of the perks of designing your own equipment.

The photo's good enough, and definitely forward thinking on the 8 horns. I tried to rep you on this and the collars, but you know how thw story goes: "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to ProtienandIron again.", So... next time around :)
Thanks mate, likewise. We need more people to spread to in the EqForum. :)

Did I spot a bottle of Liquid Grip in the chalk bowl? :)
Don't you love this stuff.

Good spot man, thats the stuff- its awesome. Its become like a ritual for me every workout now (even squat days). I start every session off with a squirt of it, and usually only need to use the normal chalk towards the end of the session. I stopped using it on grip training sessions a long time ago because it almost feels like cheating when I'm training on the thick bars. It lasts forever too.
Picked up a few things yesterday

These commercial bars have almost no wear, just a little rust dust from humidity. Got em' for 5 bucks each ! They make my chrome York economy bar below look like a toy lol

Skid, I love the bars that look that way, the brown patina on a raw bar is my favorite look. I'm glad to see that you picked up a bench, good luck with it.
Came across this basically new ProMaxima adjustable cable cross over. I wanted your opinions on which one I should keep. I currently have a Nebula old school crossover. The major advantage I see with the ProMaxima is that it is 1. almost new 2. Fully adjustable from top to bottom. I have already listed my Nebula cross over on craigslist so my mind is pretty much made up. Let me know if you think I am making a mistake.

Do both machines have a smooth action? Do both have at least 200lb. stacks?

The Nebula is not always the smoothest. It is pretty old from what I can tell. The ProMaxima is flawless. The Nebula has 200 lb stack but it feels significantly less. I don't know exactly how the amount of pulleys change the weight but I can bust out 30 reps of seated cable rows at 200 lbs. On other single pulley machines I would not be able to do nearly that many reps. More like 10-15. The stack on the new one is 150 so that is a bit of a concern.
I always have to remember that this place is for my clients so the weight doesn't need to be nearly as much as what I prefer. I only lift at my place 1 or 2 times a week.
OSUD, the gym looks good with the Nebula in it, I haven't seen any recent pictures of it. When you swap out for the Promaxima please take a few photos and post 'em on your old thread, I'd like to see how the overall gym looks, as it has come a long way in a short time. Keep on doing a great job !
Lovely pickup Skid, is it getting a lick of paint to match the rack, or are you keeping it white? The patina on those bars is beautiful.
OSU, the promaxima gets my vote but I really like that Nebula. It reminds me of the hammer strength version, its just such a shame its not hieght adjustable.

It has been a while since I have updated that thread. The gym does look quite a bit different now. Once I get the Nebula sold I will get some good shots. I took some measurements and it basically takes up the exact footprint. I may take this opportunity to completely reorganize the place if I can think of an effective place for the crossover.

Well thanks, All of you guys helped to finalize that decision. ProMaxima it is. I think I have some sentimental value in the nebula. My favorite gym I have been training at for years has the exact one so it makes it feel like a home away from home. If the Nebula was fully adjustable top to bottom I would keep it. If anyone has any interest in the Nebula shoot me a PM. I always give great deals to my fellow equipment addicts.
Parabody seated calf for $40

The seated calf raise is the only piece of equipment I miss from the commercial gym I used to belong to, and have been waiting for just the right deal to come along. Seen lots of Body Solid, Powerline, and Nautilus units from $75-$150, but when this one popped up for $40 I just had to jump on it.
can you take a photo of under the seat of the parabody? curious if the seat is attached or if the bar is on a swivel :)

Yep gonna paint it black and also remove the front floor cross piece and bolt in a small piece of angle iron.

It needs to be cleaned up a bit, but I think I got my money's worth. It seemed like the perfect way to finish off my squat/bench/deadlift day routine.
Thats a good solid seated calf Stasher, if I had the space it would certainly be on my 'to get' list.
