There's nothing more practical for self-defense than the combination of solid boxing and some offensive wrestling. If you really insist on doing a "real world" military-oriented art, PTK or Escrima are what you're looking for. It's southeastern Asian knife, stick, and empty hand fighting designed for the sole purpose of inflicting mortal or critical wounds in a timely, efficient, and hard to defend manner. It's what the Gurkas use, it's what MARSOC and the Green Berets get guys shipped in from around the world to teach, and it's what you see used choreographically in movies like [I]The Bourne Supremacy[/I].
