Well the new-years resolutioners have already arrived at my gym... apparently. I know this because I've been training at this gym over 11 years now and the regulars all know me. They are used to me being one of the few serious women lifters in there. I go on about my training and no one messes with me other than the occassional small talk. For me the new year brings a whole new crop of weirdo gawkers. They don't even try to be non-chalant about it. Today one guy felt the need to share his litany of excuses as to why he was a lazy fat ass. I'm thinking... "Am I wearing a sign that says 'please interrupt my training with your sad story of mediocrity'"? I'm like dude... STFU and lift something. Yapping to me about it ain't gonna help.
Can't imagine anyone gawking at you. And holy **** you're up 2+ lbs more than me. Guess I gotta eat more dog ****. :D

Well this isn't about the way any one was training but still blew my mind. I overheard two girls talking to each other. One lady actually said "I would just like to find a man that doesn't beat up his gf for no reason."
For no reason? So what the hell does that imply that it is okay as long as he has what he thinks is a good reason? Sigh.........

I read some of these stories and I shake my head, ya'll need to work on your danger face. I cannot remember anyone stealing plates or equipment while I am using it. Then again, I mostly lift in or around a power rack. Power racks might have some supernatural ability to repel newbies and other gym miscreants.

Not really...they think they're there to curl in.
Last Wednesday when I went in for squats two dudes were curling 55lbs in it. I just walked over, dropped my bag, took out my shoes, belt and log book. Asked them how many sets they had left, they said none and walked away.
The funny thing is both benches were not being used that they could have curled with...but gotta have them safety pins up.
Was sitting around waiting for the rack today as some guy was doing DB curls in it. No joke. I always thought people were kidding about that sort of thing. It cracked me up enough that I actually didn't mind waiting a few minutes.
Haven't seen anyone do db curls in the racks but did have one guy ask me how many sets I had left, was doing zercher squats and I told him 2. Finished up and unloaded the bar, guy comes up puts a couple of #5 weights on each side and proceeds to curl in the rack. I honestly didn't even know what to say as it was the 1st time I have ever seen anyone do that.

I've seen guy's that do nothing but curls.
I come in and their doing curls.
I leave and they're still doing curls.
They don't have big or defined biceps and nothing else about them would make me think they train for anything.
But they stand in front of the mirror and just swing away with the dumbbells.
-
It happens so often that i hardly even care; if you have head phones in and are standing any where near a piece of equip someone asks if your "on it?" Many times i will grab dumbells and stand in a space near the mirror but not at a machine and get asked about the machine. Then there are the people that just want to talk to strangers and use questions tovstrike up conversation. Once i figured out various peoples motives, it doesnt bug me any more.

I have to say that one confuses me as well.

This is what I was wondering; if people just want to make some small talk and use a dumb question to try to start a convo.

Just lonely people, people that have to associate with someone not to feel insecure in a particular environment. They just want to fit in. The new people coming into gym now are coming in groups of threes. They stick with each other, more power to them. People care too much about how they are going look or are going to be perceived. They dont want to do anything stupid to draw attention to themselves. Thats why most people stop going, they dont find something to attach to. Really- getting a little chunky wouldnt keep me going to gym. 75 percent of the population is out of shape. I look better than most without doing anything. The undertanding its going to kill me and having a life changing event to come to that realization will get my ass into the gym, and count macros and look like a noob learning it.

-Doing box squats
-Gym doesn't have boxes and won't let me bring one, benches are too high so I have to stack plates
-Gym not crowded, plenty of plates
-Psyching up for heavy set, start walking into rack
-Guy cuts me off and picks up 2 plates off my stack
-I stare and raise my hands to say "what are you doing?"
-He says "What, did you make yourself a seat?" "Are you actually using those?" "What are you doing?"
-I say "Box squats," he gives me a blank stare
-I stare at him until he walks away

There's one really fat guy at our gym that does this, every possible permutation of bicep curl, standing, seated, arm draped over the back of an incline bench, seated with the elbow on the inside of the upper leg etc.... I have better arms than he does, and mine suck.

There's always this senior citizen, probably in his 70's, that hits the heavy bag a few times(with everlast gloves), does leg press(1 plate each side) and cable pressdowns.
But when he does his pressdowns he brings his arms up to forehead level and puts his whole body into it...then proceeds to tell other that keeping their arms tucked is wrong.
I have heard that he was a pretty good boxer back in teh 70's from Boston...so who knows. though he does have epic mutton chops.
