agreed. it had great depth....layers of meaning...direct and subtle throughout. it wasn't just an overblown action movie; like 300. that movie was hugely disappointing. i honestly felt nothing for the characters of that film, because the writers just didn't flesh them out enough for you to feel connected, as with Gladiator. not sure if you've seen 300, but i just thought it could have been done much better.
Agree completely! 300 was a joke IMO.
The opening scenes in Gladiator where phenomenal! You could literally see, taste, smell...as if you were watching history live. "Historical" movies (well, loosely based granted) are my favorites. There is some cinema that can transport you right back in time!
Its not often accomplished, but when it is.... wow!!
I grew up in a largely jewish town in NJ, had many jewish friends. My piano teacher taught an elderly lady back when I was a kid, who survived the camps, herself. She was so special to me, remembering her.
And...The teaching of the holcaust was of great importance in world history classes growing up.
So, for me, this movie makes my top 20 list.

Extraordinarily moving end scene...(sorry, not sure if this is spoiling anything for anyone who hasn't seen the movie)
When he says...'I could have gotten more out.' Oh gosh, I weep, everytime. :(
Please take the time to see this movie, if you haven't...(Schindler's List)
Schindler's List was also phenomenal!!
