Nitrates > Citrulline
Nitrates > Citrulline
Agreed but I tend to use both together :D
Nitrates > Citrulline
What makes nitrates better than Citrulline? Is it better than Citrulline Malate?
Nitrates > Citrulline

Agreed but I tend to use both together :D
Hehehehe, agreed.

Beet root is a boss source: http://examine.com/supplements/Beet+Root/
I find a combination of citrulline malate, agmatine sulfate, and some nitrates source is the best for pumps.
Nitrates > Citrulline
Well to be fair both are quite awesome and as someone who only ever got chest pains from nitrates I'm left with some bias. The studies on nitrates are incredibly positive however and not just for its effects on exercise performance.
What supplements have nitrates in them and how much would you recommend per day?
Nitrates > Citrulline
In terms of known safety to efficacy I would disagree; I'm not talking about carcinogenicity, but rather cardiovascular parameters & how certain people react autonomously to nitrates. An overdose of nitrates is a realistic risk and it can kill you- can't say the same for citrulline

Very true. Which is why dosing them responsibly is always key, and something I always try and stress.
as someone who only ever got chest pains from nitrates
Strange.
At what dose?
Any other coingested compounds?

Tried a variety of doses both solo and alongside other ingredients. Only ever got chest pains and occasional headaches depending on what else I did or didn't take. Maybe I'm broken... no pumps, enhanced V02max or accelerated hypertrophy for Dodge. Wish I had a BP monitor or went out and borrowed one to see where it was going to
I've experienced shortness of breath & lightheadedness myself & can't take them anymore even in small doses
I've experienced shortness of breath & lightheadedness myself & can't take them anymore even in small doses
Any ideas why this might happen to certain individuals?

Holy interindividual variables batman. I've never had any such issues with nitrates, but I will keep an eye open in the future.
Thanks a bunch for sharing guys.
I've experience similar things. Almost always get lightheadedness and headaches with nitrates. And was dosing between 500-1000mg Citrulline Nitrate.
But I love straight Citrulline...the combo with Agmatine does wonders for pumps for me.

Contraindications with other medications, chronic anxiety, environmental factors, family history of cardiovascular disease, et cetera. type-A personalities are more susceptible to any sort of cardiovascular anomalies because of idiosyncratic stress responses. It's really a wide open field of possibilities.

What, with nitrates? Potassium nitrate doesn't mess me up, but cialis, above 10mg makes me light headed, dizzy, extremely tired to the point I can't hold my head up, but I do take an ace inhibitor and alpha/beta blocker for blood pressure.

In cases of hypotension (lightheadedness), peripheral chemoreceptors also get activated due to reduced bloodflow past the receptor, which may cause the shortness of breath.
Dodge, I have no clue why you get chest pains. Is it localized to the area around the heart or is it symmetrical?
In to support guys thinking Nitrates and Citrulline together work the best, Met-RX has two PWO's with both.
But an upcoming factor a lot of companies has put out in N.O boosters is Agmatine.

I have taken Agmatine 500 500 from USP labs, that gave straight insane pumps and brought out veins i've never seen before.

Nice slip-in.
Feel sorry for you guys that react poorly to nitrates. CiM + nitrates is a big part of my preworkout stack, occasionally with some agmatine.

Lol this is not the thread to shill products.

I would agree if a compensatory response wasn't autonomic. It could be specific to me because I am on a lot of stimulants consistently; i.e. it could be some kind of Hering–Breuer reflex complication because of the way my respiratory musculature responds- it's hard to explain because it's not EXACTLY shortness of breath, more like impaired diaphragm control
Perhaps i respond too well, ~3-4g CM or 1g agmatine are more than enough for me.. almost too much.

EXCELLENT paper. this guy knows the topic.
Citrulline Malate my prefered too, by far. arginine gives acne bursts and stomach discomfort to say the least
Ornithine is good for urea cycle/flushing but no real benefit pre WO
2-4gr 20min or so before WO, to feel the effect at the beginning of the WO
it's REALLY effective at boosting energy and strength.
