Hack Squat Alternative
So I work out at our local YMCA, and while its a new Y, they did not see fit to put in a hack squat machine. I'm also doing the 12-week video bulking program here on bodybuilding.com by Mr. Charlebois and he calls for the hack squat once a week.
I looked up on this site a possible alternative, (as I also already do leg press and squats) I found the barbell hack squat. However, I do not have straps and I am not in the position to buy any (long story) any time soon so my grip is failing me before my quads do. Also I've noticed that my shoulders fatigue quickly on this exercise.
Now, I know this program for gains is all about compound movements, but would it be advisable to replace the barbell hack squat with leg extensions as I can push my quads more with that machine than with the barbell. Or is there another compound excersize I can use?

Front squats. It's a compound movement that places a greater emphasis on the quads than back squats.

Front squats on the smith is my replacement if the gym has no hacksquat.

A pair of woven cotton straps costs $3.
