I love peanut butter, and ive been taking in about 2 spoons a day for a snack while on keto... 7 grams of carbs, 2 of which is fiber, 3 sugar... so it works out to like 5 grams of carbs per serving..... anyway this is peter pan creamy pb, im just wondering, is it ok while on keto?
i checked out some of the "natural" pb, and it had just as much freakin sugar and carbs as the regular pb, so i dont see what difference it would make to switch
Natural does not have hydroginated fats so it is better.
Peanut butter is only quote good, not good good.
I agree with Marmie. Trans-fatty acids (which results from hydrogenated fat) are very bad, worse than regular saturated fat. Peanut butter is definitely caloric dense, so you have to be careful not to over indulge but two spoons a day isn't excessive in my book. I happen to love natural peanut butter and consume some almost every day. It is high protein, low carb, and the fats are healthy unsaturated ones. You can definitely get protein that is less caloric but I look upon peanut butter as a little healthy treat - after all, you can't be a slave to a diet.
I should have added that I don't follow the keto diet, so I can't comment on how peanut butter butter fits in with that diet.

Peanut Butter (natural, not processed) fits in quite well with Keto. I usually have a spoon or 2 of it a day. There's a brand that most supermarkets have called Teddy which is awesome taste wise and it's all natural. Good stuff. They have an unsalted version too for those watching their sodium intake.

i asked out the regular peanut butter most of us eat (in my case, peter pan creamy)... is that ok or not? as for natural peanut butter, it seems to have just as many carbs, plus i dont know where the hell to find it other than giant.

Regular Peanut Butter is fine. Not great, but fine.
The natural peanut butter can be found at most supermarkets. I don't know where you're located, but out here we can get it at Shaws or Stop and Shop. The brand I get is called Teddy. It does have the same number of carbs, but I think it had more dietary fiber. Also there are either less or no transfats in it.

i live in fairfax, in northern va... we have giant, shoppers, safeway, and a bunch of other stores here... the only natural one i saw carried was smuckers, and that had sugar and MORE carbs in it than the regular kind... so i figured i might as well just use regular PB.
I'm live in California and the brand that is carried by almost every store is Laura Scudder's, which is produced by Smuckers. My recollection is that sugar and carb content is roughly the same as Peter Pan/Skippy. Could be wrong though. Scudder's has 2 grams of sugar, 6 grams of carbs, 16 grams of fat, and 8 grams of protein per tablespoon. Granted, lots of fat but mostly healthy unsaturated fat. I'm more interested in the carbs being low, and 6 grams of carbs vs. 8 grams of protein makes it a high protein/low carb food in my book. As I said before, there are certainly better protein alternatives but peanut butter isn't all the bad if you don't eat too much.
He's talking ketosis anyway, so the fats are a good thing. It's the carb content he needs to look out for. 6g of carbs in 2 tablespoons isn't a bad thing by any means.

I eat the Smuckers natural, and I LOVE it...I was a hardcore JIF fan growing up; and it took a little while get used to the natural. But when you're dieting, and it's natural or nothin'....gimme a spoon! :)
The natural is better than processed just because of the no trans fatty acids thing, plus if it's higher in fiber, that's a bonus.
Man, I'm hungry now....dammit. :D
I actually prefer natural peanut butter anyway. It's got that dryer taste to it that I like for some reason. :)
Plus, it's cool looking at the ingrediants label and seeing "Peanuts, salt." And that's it.
