3-4 shakes is pretty normal. As long as it fits your macros you are ok.
First and foremost my diet is spot on, but I do take 3-4 shakes a day including 1-2 Vasolate shakes a day.
Ideally, I take zero.
Chicken+cottage cheese
2 Scoops (50g) of protein powder in my oatmeal in the morning
1 Shake between breakfast & Lunch
1 shake between Lunch & dinner
I take 3-4 and I see nothing wrong with that but make sure it fits in your day's macros.
Calories in vs calories out. If you're looking at specific macro-nutrient ratios - you may be taking in an excessive amount of protein - you would have to count to know. 1g per lb of bodyweight from all sources will ensure proper nitrogen balance, anything over 1.5g per lb is likely more than needed.

Word. That's where I am at and look at my transformation. Just sayin'...
i see "as long as it fits your macros" is the reigning mentality itt. :D
there is no right answer on how many shakes daily is appropriate - regardless of how they fit in your macros.
as a general guideline, protein powders are simply meant to help you supplement your protein intake for the day. IMO, one should strive to eat at least 50% of their daily nutrient intake from real foods - and the more from real foods, the better.
does that mean shakes are bad? not at all..
but remember: shakes are supplements to the diet, not the be-all end-all of the diet itself.
Ideally, I take zero.
Chicken+cottage cheese
This.
But again that's ideally, and not always realistic. I don't feel like going back on my browser, and quoting snag; but he hit what I was gonna say extremely on the head. Sooo, with that said. Refer up to his post :D
well i probably have between 100g - 140g of protein that comes from shakes out of a total of 250g - 300g
1-2
i think 4 is ideal...anything over that and you just adding protein to your diet...

is that the idea of a protein shake tho, to add more protein into your diet?
Ideally, I take zero.
Chicken+cottage cheese
This. But I do more a variety. Fills you up more, and does the exact same thing.
i'd say anymore then 2 is pushing it i mean, When are you eating food if your having that many shakes I stick to 5 whole food meals sometimes 6 on back or leg day and 2 shakes morning and post.
I take one in the morning right after waking up, one after workout, and one right before going to bed.
it depends on how much you need. Individuals with lower weight and a non busy schedule can get but on one or two because they have the time to prepare real meals and the protein needs arent as high. Personally I dont like to consume 3-4 but I weight 230lbs and I have a pretty busy schedule at times and it get very difficult to consume large amount of cottage cheese, chicken breast etc on the go. Use the shakes to supplement your needs.

Wouldn't wanna do that now would we !!!
I take about 2 or 3 depending where I am or if I can be arsed to eat a meal. I wouldnt say its terrible mate.
I'm the same as Riskoe. I generally have one in the morning, one after my workout and one before bed. Sometimes I'll throw in a 4th if I can't be bothered to make a full meal. Then I'll use a protein shake to replace along with something handy/easy, like tuna from the can.
well i find it's a waste of money...i'm a bit frugal but i want the max return a product has to offer...after 4 anabolic spikes in a day - why take a 5th shake to just fill macros when you could just as easily eat a whole meal...just eat grilled chicken...
Trust me, I would like to fill in my macros with tasty myofusion shakes...i do that w/4...there is diminishing returns as far as muscle gain after 4 shakes...yes, you will fill in your macros and that's important - but your not getting the max benefit after 4 - you don't create a 5th anabolic spike w/ a 5th shake...
If that were the case - we would all be growing like weeds...i could just down drink after drink...pt is - on a cellular level - protein synthesis doesn't allow for this to happen...

Pure LouBscience at its best
One.
lol.
You can eat food, you know that ?
i only do 2/day...1 scoop each so 2 scoops total, i think 50g from a shake is enough. should look into other sources of protein too

I dont normally drink protein shakes but when i do
I make sure its less than 5 so i get anabolic spikes

Well you have to be using the protein and protein of a good quality. With all the different types of protein powders available you can surely find a few that fit into your macros. i agree that 4 or 5 can be a bit much but if thats all you can do then do it for now.
Literally all i do is eat and as its hard for me to gain weight, adding protein shakes inbetween meals helps to add more calories to my day otherwise i eat so much i physically feel sick. so normally its a mass shake with breakfast, whey shake inbetween snack and lunch, post workout and a mass shake before bed.
i take up to 6 or more since its my main protein source
I take 3, 2 whey shakes and a casein.
