Good call.
Soooo.. Why does York's website suck so bad?
Can anyone help fill in the blanks here?
I'm looking for a 28mm bar that is 100% raw steel (sleeves and shaft).. It would ideally have bearings... and no center knurl would be swell.
I had previously written York off for failing to meet enough of these criteria but I just want to double check before I finalize an Oly bar purchase.
It appears that maybe the Elite bars do meet most of my criteria but I'm guessing those shafts are chromed???

Anyone? I hate chrome.

It just does not exist. You could get 32011 which is a 28mm stainless bushing training bar with no center knurl, or the bearing competition version 32010 which has a center knurl. Both have chromed sleeves. They only other production bare steel they have is the B&R.
Other than the Milos, I can't think of anything that I have heard about. Someone over at IH mentioned a French dumbbell that might have pre-dated the 1902 shot loading canister bell. He described it as a canister shaped bell that was plate loaded (As I understood, plates went inside the can, instead of shot like Milo's). Alan Calvert was always patenting his new devices so presumable they were somewhat new. It seems like the Triplex might be the first hybrid bell that combined the old shot loading system with the new plate technology.
There were other dumbbells that were plate loaded but in a globe shape, like the go-go dumbbells. But they didn't have an outer globe shell like the Triplex and Duplex.
If it's French, I might have more info. in our archive. I'll look it up. There was one we have photos of, but I don't remember the date exactly and I don't want to speculate on the ol' 'net without having the info at hand.
Just came in to witness IvankoBarbellCo posting in the York thread. Worlds are colliding...... :)

Thanks GI.
That's what I thought but the York website descriptions left me second guessing. You're the man GI. If I ever move to Canada, I'll make sure to do business with ya. ;)
I'm not opossed to buying used either.. if you happen to be in my area.. I wouldn't mind a pm.......

It'd be interesting if Ivanko moved production to the U.S. if they'd become the "new" York....

Looks like they used to be yellow????
Seriously though, they are Bur plates, the 40lber marked with the number 5. Not super common but not that rare.
Some hustler has been trying to sell them for over a buck a pound on EBay for about six months or so with no luck.
Finally got a decent pic of the cleaned up bar knurling. My second split sleeve found a home with Swimmer32. Spreading the York wealth!

I didn't have much of a problem selling a couple pairs of 20lb Bur plates for a tad over $1/LB a few months back. Now the BUR-BEL plates I'm holding on to... Those are worth serious cash :)

I actually haven't bought them yet. Guy is asking for about .8/lb for them. Don't have any use for them though since they're standard (other than piling them up in the corner), and it doesn't seem like there's much margin to flip them.

Rumor has it, Krebs is going to turn those Jacksons into blobs. I saw him at Home Depot buying a cutting wheel for his grinder and a face shield. He also had a used thong in his back pocket.

And the foil wrapped cucumber(Spinal Tap).
Picked up an 80's York Power Bar and a 70's York EZ-curl Bar with collars. The curl bar came with York's instructions and the hex wrench for the hex screws holding on the collars and sleeves. Pics to follow.
