I figured out a better way to get better ROM yesterday. I went and got the platform part of an aerobics step and laid back with my shoulders on it. Since it is not as high as a bench, there is no struggling to pull the oly bar up with you, but you still get a decent stretch.

Balancing the oly bar is KILLIN' me on these. I tried with a fixed bb and had much better luck.

The fixed bb's at my gym don't go up high enough in weight, I think they top out at 115. Do you use a roller/sissy pad? Iif you do them from the floor and you are doing the 35 (depending on how big you are) or 45 plates, you can roll the bar on the floor up your body as you lay there, no need to balance. But if you are trying to get your upper body higher, THAT is a biotch using a standard bench. Especially if you are a shorty like we are;)

You mean "Pussy Pad?" Yep, I do. I think our fixed go up to 150, but I was only doing 80 pounds. I'm goint to experiment around with these, as well as start throwing Goodmorning in on alternate lower body training sessions.
Well, when you come down, in between all the reveling, we can train and you can help me haul that weighted oly up on my gut.

I use a 40 or 45Kg bar....and instead of putting my shoulders on a step I put my feet on it so they are higher.......and if you pause and squeeze for 2 secs at the top of every move it kills!

Bret recommends the Hamptom thick pad for these exercises. Mine came in the mail last week. I have never used a pussy pad before and now have the biggest one on the market. LOL!!

Good video!! That is a HUGE pad, lol!
See where Bret is on the bench when he is just sitting there? My shoulders are lower than that, so I can't just lean back and start thrusting. It takes some crazy maneuvering, though wedging the bench would totally help. Just thinking about taking up the squat rack for hip work, dunno...."no thrusting in my squat rack!"

I do my hip thrusters using a stage that happens to be in my house. (Guitar player here) The stage is a tiny bit lower than the bench and is very stable. I prolly will never do them when at the public gym. :)

Haha now I'm going to be even more self conscious about doing them!
-
Thanks for the video Karla. Very informative. I think Brett is right. The right amount of weight is key. I had to experiment quite a bit to get my glutes to fire, definitely not too much weight.
I have also done them the way dawndm does them. Works just as well for me.
As far being self-conscious, I do them at the gym, although I do choose a "discreet" corner where my cooch isn't being thrust up in someone's face. Aside from that, I really don't care what people think.

do you all do these while on your period as well?? No prob?
-
Yes and without problems.
