Nope, they were full
No......
I'm pretty sure he trained 1/2 squats, not full squats
in the CFTS it says:
1/2 Squat: 5 reps x 450lbs
1 rep x 480lbs
4 reps x 600lbs maximum
I heard the 2x600x6 were half squats too before, not full.
P.S: HALF SQUAT = PARALLEL IN THIS DEFINITION

I just looked over an interview on CF where CF said they were below parallel, I think. Give me a minute...
My fault, I saw a post by Chalie saying he went just past parallel.

Alright man, link me up if you find it!
I only saw 600x4 for parallel in the CFTS, so not 100% sure here but I just imagine he'd train with parallel squats
Edit: Yeah man, I thought he went about parallel heh.

Well.......ahum.....how far past parallel?????
Isnt going just past parallel the same as (almost) full squats??

WTF
lol dude....bro.....Dynamin....listen...
A full squat is going as low as your range of motion allows or pretty damn close. Most guys can get to a position where their asses are about 3-5 inches off the ground....some can even touch their ass to the ground, like my friend lol but a realistic ROM for him would be gettin his ass 3" from the ground
In a "just past parallel" squat, you still have about 8-12 inches of range of motion left....even more if you're taller!
WTF

Bump, when I squat I get my ass to about 5" from the ground (I'm not that flexible, unfortunately).

I understand that but doing 600 lbs for 12 reps at just past parallel is incredibly impressive IMO. Especially at 180 lb body weight.
Now you're getting into whether his ass shoulda been 3 or 5 inches of the ground
I'm beginning to wonder whether you americans are jealous of our sprinters and cant accept the fact Ben squatted that much.
Juice or no juice

WTF?
Ben Johnson was kickass, he's like an idol to me, and I mean that.
I'm pretty ****ing impressed with the guy, VERY STRONG. His bench was also 407x2
But you know what? You asked a question, and I answered you. Didn't even know you were fukin referring back to Ben Johnson!! No need to make retarded accusations because I gave you a very detailed answer so you have an understanding of what a true full squat is and what a just past parallel squat is!!

Dude, your on to us. This jealousy is the reason we won't grant you statehood.

You couldnt handle the climate anyways ;)
I find it very hard to believe he could do 600x12, let alone 700. His frame isnt large enough to support this kind of weights, this needs a picture or a video to silence everyone in doubt. Someone said this, someone heard that - bottom line is that means ****.
This guy was a supremely trained athlete, and whether or not he squatted 700, it is irrelevant, I think people are just pissed off on this board because they have trained all their life and can't match it.
Thats total BS...no 700 lb. squat. He squatted 620 or so...his workouts were 3 rep training in the high 500 lb range and then he would immediately sprint to push him through sticking points. He was a freak but to say it was 700 lbs below parallel I think is just not true.Ben Johnson did have more juice in him then a bucket of grapefruit but...no. He still was a Winner, uh I mean a Win-strol.

LOL....:)
Here's a pic of Idalberto Arranda 170lb Cuban oly lifter doing 638lb for 2 reps.

So those who say a 180 lb guy cant sqaut 700, I say you should shut the f*vck up!!
Dont get so pissed off bro, all Im asking is a similar pic of Ben, then ill admit I was wrong and u were right, and ill rep you.

it is hard to say from that picture, but it looks like he is wearing a suit and wraps....a lot different then raw.....wade hopper has done 750 @ 165 with single ply gear, no briefs, w/ short wraps...

He is wearing a weightlifting suit, not a squat suit, and those aren't knee wraps like in powerlifting. It is pretty much like raw.

thanks for clarifying...thats impressive.
i'm not saying he did it or not. I personally don't care that much one way or another, but why is it so tough to believe that he could hit 700ish?
The dude was a sprinter, sprinters have to have INSANELY explosive strength in their hams and glutes. I see no reason why the best sprinter of all time (yeah yeah, banned, schmanned, he just got caught, like Tim Montgomery) could not hit 700 on the squat, especially considering that he did so much strength training.
On a side note, a "full squat" for the purpose of most discussions is one that would land greens on the platform, so just past parallel probably means 1" past parallel, so probably 3 greens.
My gym manager, lots of people here in Toronto and some news articles all reported he would do sets of 600 quite easily.
I've heard reps of 12 with 600 lb, which would put him darn close to a 700 lbs squat.
Its freaky but it happens to be true
Are you sure it wasn't on a smith machine or with a safety squat rack something like that?

I always wondered who that guy was. I have seen that picture a million times.
Are you sure it wasn't on a smith machine or with a safety squat rack something like that?
I wondered that too but according to http://www.charliefrancis.com/ (his former coach), he always had 2 spotters, would do 6 reps of 600 lbs and thats as high as he went but he could do more.
I guess for sprinters its not necessary to go max, but I have heard stories of him doing around 700 lbs max
Dont get so pissed off bro, all Im asking is a similar pic of Ben, then ill admit I was wrong and u were right, and ill rep you.
I'm working on that but its not easy, Ben's glory days were the late 80's and hence no internet back then.
I'm hoping someone maybe posted an old pic somewhere
No, I meant 600 for 2 sets of 6 reps.
Back in the days and I followed Ben Johnson, it was said he could squat 600 LB's.
I also heard the 350 LB bench number too.
Now that I hear about the 600 was for 2 sets of 6 reps, makes it even more incredible.
Any 180 LB man who can control 600 LB's for a squat and power back up with it, is going to have a great strength to weight ratio. It's no guarantee they are running a 9.79 100 M though.
But if this person has a descent height and muscles and tendons are laid out well, they can be trained to become fast. I'd even say under 11.0 100 M as a guarantee if they dedicate themselves to the endeavor.
This is the second stupidest thread i have ever read on bb.com, second only to a thread in the misc about a guy who fantasized over his sister.
Person: Lift Claim.
Me: Pics or Sanctioned Report or it didn't happen.
End.
