For the tricep pushdown, should you keep elbows tucked in to the body, or should you lean over slightly (with arched back) and elbows infront of the hip, or neither? I've seen it done both of these ways and I'm wondering which is the correct/best form to maximize tricep involvement and minimize injury?

Better to use a rope or the bar? or switch it up?
The more you lean in, the more the tension goes off the triceps and puts it on the shoulders and/or chest. That is why when you see people using too much weight they are leaning forward, which then looks like chest press. Sure, they can move the weight, but it is not the triceps doing the work. Keep those elbows tucked, try not to lean to much and really focus on use the triceps for moving the weight.
Depending on how you were doing them, you might have to lower the weight but doing a little less weight with good form is much better than using more weight with bad form. This will help target the muscles better as well as prevent injuries.

Just have to see what works for you. The V-bar and rope are much easier on the wrist. Though I personally like the straight bar since I feel i get more out of it, I will only use that when I use my wrist straps.
For pressdowns, keep your body vertical and your elbows tight to your sides. Concentrate on flexing the tricep and giving it a good contraction at the bottom of the movement. Alternating between rope and bar is a good plan, or just go with the one that feels best to you. Using a D-handle and reverse grip is good, too.
Leaning over and/or flaring the elbows starts to bring the chest into the picture and turns a good tricep exercise into a poor chest one.
