How to find the thesis in an article

Could you guys help me out?


I need help identifying theses in three different articles. I don't understand how to do that ****. I'm kind of retarded.


Here is the first paragraph of the first article

"The purpose of this paper is to view Darwin and his writings in the broad perspective of the historical conflict between science and religion. The modern history of that conflict may be divided into three overlapping stages. In the first stage, the new physics and cosmology of the seventeenth century, combined with scientific, technological, and economic progress in the eighteenth, gave rise to natural religion, or deism, as a competitor of revealed religion. I know what a thesis is, but for some reason I can't find a thesis in an article. I am a terrible critical reader.

it tells the reader what he's writing about.

how about the second article?

How is sentence one an arguement? That is just saying what he is going to cover. That is not his arguement.

Your taking the english course, you should figure it out yourself... it doesn't take critical reading skills to figure this out, a thesis is a clear statement..

Also, HS English teachers are monkeys with bachelor degrees. A thesis doesn't have to be a single sentence.

the thesis is your points. for examply a paragraph structure would be pee, point evidence elaboration, so you p is your thesis. most of the time first sentence in a paragraph

I didn't ask about the defintion of a thesis. I know what a thesis is. I am had trouble identifying the thesis. The thesis is not always the first sentence, which is what she said. Therefore she is wrong. Hence the "dumb" comment.

So you read an article but can't identify what point the article is trying to make?

that's not what he said. he can understand the point of an article. he can also understand the definition of "thesis." he, however, has trouble finding the specific statement(s) in the beginning that wholly describe the point of the article.

Thesis will be in the first paragraph USUALLY. And repeated in the last paragraph USUALLY in a different context.
