Definition of "Recomp"
I've been having mixed answers on this, but what is the REAL definition of recomposition?
I figured it was pretty much a total transformation, lose your fat (not just a bit if you are already in shape), and gain muscle.
I'm in a contest for recomp and there are people in the contest that are already pretty buff and think that recomping is doing the bulk/cut cycle, but I thought that Recomp was pretty much a life changer. Let me know what you think!
-
Pretty different for everyone...my recomp has been a result of a lot of trial and error and ass-kicking workouts and spending a lot of time in a caloric deficit. You can't gain muscle and lose fat in exactly the same moment in time, but you can over the span of a day in miniscule amounts, and over the span of a year it can make an appreciable difference. In about a year I gained about 3 lbs and lost 4% body fat, and I look much different. I never did a true intentional bulk, but it had to have happened in a small fashion over time along with some fat loss. The result is indeed a total change. :)

I guess for me it's the recomposition of the fat mass and lean mass...
My personal Recomp saw me shed 9.25 kg (20.35 pounds) of fat mass, 74.5 cm lost (30 inches) and gained 0.55kg lean over about 10-11 months.
I really don't know what else you might describe as a Recomp?
-
Exactly, I have no idea what Recomp could be, other than what we all have described: losing quite a bit of fat and replace it with lean muscle. Dunno what these guys in my contest are thinking, really...
Here's a linmk to the contest thread, if you're wondering what kind of guys I'm talking about: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=7075731

That's pretty much what the contest criteria described:
"change of visual appearance (both: more mass + more definition), as estimated by photographs documenting your progress. The more lean mass you gain and the more fat you lose, the higher your chances are to win."

Hey Ron! :D
No certain weight, really. I thought I wanted to be down to like 125-130, however with gaining muscle, I'm not sure how much that's gonna change, I mean I have def been losing fat, but my weight hasn't changed in about 2 weeks, so I'm letting the weight goal be wide open.

I know that's directed at Ron, but based on that statement it sounds like you're in the right frame of mind for someone who's goal is a recomp (and therefore headed in the right direction ;) ).
Checked out your pics--great progress, btw!

god I hate the word "recomp". Can't wait 'til it falls out of fashion.

Would you replace it with something more...permanent, like 'core training?' :P

Saying one wants to "recomp" on a bodybuilding site is like saying one wants to "gofast" on a drag racing site or claiming you are going to college to "getsmart".
:D

New Goal...
