My friend gets up every morning and cranks out 100 push ups and 100 situps first thing, regardless of what else he has planned for the day, weights, cardio, or otherwise. Good or Bad?

it depends - I try and crank out 100 (5x20) dips every morning before I leave the house - some mornings I just stall and stall because I can't get myself started and I end up being late for work. If I wind up getting fired, then yes, doing those dips every morning is bad... other wise they're good. Same with your buddy's regimen.
And I gotta admire your buddy's discipline...
once you'rein good shape, 100 pushups and 100 situps aren't tough at all and really don't dig into recovery.
100 pushups would take me about 90 seconds.
It all depends on what your friends goals are, if doing those exercises helps him to work towards his goals then theres nothing wrong with it.
good if thats your only training (like if your 12 years old or something)
if you go to the gym i wouldnt bother
and 100 pushups is not a lot...

either thats b.s. or your in very good shape
^^^ Wow strong stolen signature (and bad grammar).
It won't hinder your gains, but it definitely won't help them either.

I did 100 pushups in less than the 2 minutes we used to have with the military, it's not that difficult, that's when I weighted 205 as well. If I was lighter it would just be easier
I did 104 in 2 minutes, then turned around and did 101 situps in 2 minutes, then ran a 12:24 2-mile.
I weighed 198, and was in the best endurance shape of my life.
ZFan88 will appreciate that I scored a 361 on my PT test not once, but twice.
I would call 100 in under 90 secs BS...unless your form is completely crappy a.k.a Chicken Pecking

Wouldn't this be good for getting your metabolism revved up? Might be helpful for that reason.

You appear to be in about the same shape I'm in. Although I'm in the AF and we have a percentage thing for scoring on the test, so I don't know what 361 means..

Well, the max on Army PT test is 300. When they scored to see who would win the Iron-Man award at my NCO training class, they go to the extened scale. 361 was the highest my Training NCO's had ever seen.
It must be hard cranking out that many pushups at your height. I knew guys your height that had a hell of a time because their ROM was longer than most peoples.
I wish I had joined the AF....I just didn't listen to the AF recruiter when he came to my highschool.
I don't know about you but pushups gave me a strong back. I love them. I'm for them.
I don't have anything against it, I guess it could mess with recovery to an extent, but I don't see where it would help with any of my goals. I don't need to be able to do 100 of anything :)
Great for muscular endurance IMO. I think it's a good thing, especially if it does help him with his goals (I know I repeated a few of you, but it bears repeating). I like push-ups myself. I'm 5'6", and when I weighed around 125, I cranked out 93 in 60 sec. Can't do that now though, but I'm working back up to that. I couldn't do much more than that in 2 min anyway, so it's probably about the same as the previous posts.
useless.

I'm also 5-6, and I my best I did 84 in 60 seconds at 165 lbs, chest to fist. At the time I couldn't bench my BW for reps lol
