I've been thinking about getting it done, but I have an extreme phobia of sharp objects near my penis, so I was wondering if anyone out there has gotten circumcised later in life and if it was painful at all during and/or after the procedure.

why do u want to get it done in the first place?
and to rogerius shut up your red which means your opinion is not valid in these forums

why the **** would you want anyone cutting your penis
Pretty much its extremely uncomfortable to pull the foreskin back.
Pretty much its extremely uncomfortable to pull the foreskin back.
You can get phimosis fixed without circumcision I think
Pretty much its extremely uncomfortable to pull the foreskin back.
Did you try retracting daily,it takes only 2-3 minutes.Try retracting daily and use baby oil.In one month,i can full retract it with no problem at all.
and btw it will hurt like hell

I would recommend reading this thread on another forum I use (or at least the OP's responses)

Here is his OP with his two updates
Yep, tomorrow is the day. Hopefully, I will get something good enough that I won't remember what's going on for a few days. Frankly, this is not something that I want to experience or remember.
Update!
The burning question: How much sensation did you lose?
The burning answer: A WHOLE FREAKING LOT.
If I had known I was going to lose as much sensitivity as I did, I would not have gotten circumsized until it was a last resort. The old saying about the palm of your hand vs. the back is an understatement- the nerve endings in my foreskin gave me a completely different dimension of sensation, but now it's gone. Crap.
So there it is, people, proof from a cognizant person who knows the before and after: Circumcision DEFINATELY reduces the amount of sensation in your penis by an large amount- maybe even half. It's not a percentage, nor is it accurate to say half- it's a whole different set of sensations that complement and add to sexual pleasure. I'm sorry for all you guys who never got to know that sensation- it's FAR superior to what I have now.
Penis, I'm sorry. I'll never forget the time we had together with our foreskin.
RIP Foreskin
The conclusion: If you hate your child, have him circumcised.
Much later update!
It's been 110-ish days since the operation, so here's a long-term update for you. I think that anything that will happen has happened by now, so this should be the last one. First off, let me say this- being circumcised was the worst decision of my life, and I can never go back on it. As far as physical changes go: I still have ugly stitch marks that haven't faded at all. They sting occasionally when that skin-penis joint it being pulled on. This is one thing that I hope goes away, but I've seen no improvement recently; so if it does happen, it won't be for a long time. My glans is fully 'roughened' now. Let's say this about loss of feeling. If you call what I had pre-surgery as normal, then what I have now feels like I'm humping a bowl of pudding. It's really that drastic. I don't know if it's a screwup during stitching but what's left of my frenulum is... exposed now. I can't think of a good way to put it, but it's just kind of stickign out in a way that you wouldn't expect it to be. Now, I'm not exactly an expert on what the underside of a penis should look like, but what I've got seems rather out of place.
Other effects: Huge decrease in libido. Seriously. Motivation is still there, but it's nothing like before. Frequency of erections is the same, but intensity and sensation are decreased markedly.
To conclude- circumcision is bad, bad news. Please don't circumcise your children unless it's medically required.

Cliffs,
got got circumcised as an adult.
Lost a ton of sensation sexually
Ok brah.. since you asked.
I had mine done as I had a condition...
"phimosis" = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phimosis (NSFW.... pic of penis(not mine lol))
Basically as it states, could retract foreskin over head properly... when it DID go over the head it would get "stuck" and cause head to swell a little etc, and involved ripping it back over... this ONLY would happen during sex with no condom. (with partner etc etc)
So when knowing that this wasn't meant to happen, finally built up courage after years sexual activity to go doctor, who referred me to a surgeon. Basically said was stretching exercises and cream that COULD help or get it cut... I took the cut option......
It was PAINFUL as hell, the whole area swelled up thought I had lost inches haha... and the worst part was the comfort afterwards. As you can imagine 21 years of having the head covered, it was extremely sensitive and involved wearing padding/bandage covering for like couple MONTHS afters.. otherwise just touching it on jocks would be uncomfortable.
The stitches, during trying sex too soon, would pop out and bleed..
ALSO worst of all, was the sleep boners..... you would wake up in pain and agony praying for it to go down as it would be ripping at stitches.. very uncomfortable.
Anyways afterwards now I notice that sex ISNT as good, not as much sensation etc (well a little decreased, guess thats the head being less sensitive) but more enjoyable as no concern over it popping over the head and getting stuck and causing me to stop midway through in pain and grab at it hahaha <--(not fun with randoms!).
So anyways, had it done, the recovery is SLOW, they say can take up to 12 months to be completely normal, mine didnt take that long but its wierd...
But overall it was worth it IMHO.
My deep dark secret exposed !
Cliffs
- Had phimosis (couldnt retract foreskin over head penis)
- waited til 21, finally saw doctor
- opted and had surgery circumcised
- bulk pain with stitches, mid night boners, sex etc
- long recovery
- but worth it overall as no further problems.
From another thread on here :)
go back in time and make sure you get it done as a baby bro it's the only way.

Non-religious circumcision only started in English-speaking countries in the late 1800's. The main reason was to prevent masturbation. If you want to learn more then look at this site:

Circumcision rates have dropped in the USA to 60%.
http://www.circumstitions.com/USA.html
In Canada and Australia the rate has dropped to less than 10%. In Britain the rate is less than 1%. Only 20-25% of the world are circumcised, 2/3 of these are Muslim.
The foreskin is a vital part of the penis. Those that are circumcised do not know what they are missing.
The foreskin contains many specialized nerves on it's underside. When the foreskin is moved up and down it is very pleasurable. Circumcised men have lost this ability to masturbate easily as there is no gliding effect. Circumcised men often have to resort to artificial lubrication in masturbation and sex. See here for the function of the foreskin:

Heals after about 2-3 weeks. Hurts like fuk. I was only 7 too, but still remember it.
Where my family's from, it's done in a big ceremony when you turn 7, and some men from the village hold you down while the imam cuts it off with a piece of broken shell.
No anaesthetic or nothing. Cruel ****ers.
My friend had this done when we were in highschool. He said it was horrible, but he lived.
edit: ^ Where the **** are you from? I've been looking into Islam a lot and that **** is done when you're a baby, not when you're 7.

It's really traditional and primitive.
I was born and raised in Australia, so I don't agree with the practice at all, but tradition is tradition.
My son will have it done when he turns 7 too.
The Australian tribal aboriginals (certain coastal tribes) follow a similar process, but do it much later (about 12 I think), and also involves fire.
Get some of that steroid cream that thins your skin and helps it stretch and crap

tradition does not justify that at all

i got mine done at age 18
it was a outpaitent surgery which means it was dont in the office and and i didnt have to say over night or anything like that
and the reason why it was done in the office was because i just got my **** numb and chose not to be put to sleep. thats about the only pain u will feel if u choose to get it done like i did, they stick u with the needle around the purbic area and not the actual penis.
i didnt have any pain after that i didnt even need the pain killers and i t heeled up fast
oh yeah let me let u know that if u are the type to get hard all the time that and the needle is the only pain u will have
so just try not to get a erection as much

It causes unneeded stress and pain on a child.
Even you said you dont agree with it, you were raised in Australia, Im sure that you understand it is wrong

Modern civilization, it's barbarous.
