Does anyone shave with a slant? I'm thinking about picking up a merkur slant since the only safety razor I have is an ej89 and I'd like to change it up a bit.

I have an omega 49 and I love it. It is bigger than most.

Damn I really want that ikon b1 slant in DLC but don't want to drop $175 on a slant and not like it..
rip in peace htgam + ppf. its owner got caught fraudin product reviews and ingredients, so now he's renaming his company to try and shake off the negative image. so much drama over something simple as shaving soap...

jelly of that special pricing. I missed it. I lost a bet so I can't shave until the end of december but I think I'm going to order a b1 coated bulldog handle right now and then hopefully get a b1 slant head after christmas. Two month hiatus from shaving with a new ikon slant...hnnng

Erik came across as a douche throughout most of this so I don't see coming out under a new cliche name undoing much damage he did to his business. There are too many other top notch artisan soaps around right now.

Yeah that'll be amazing. My first pass I thought was horrible because it felt like it was just rubbing the soap off. I reach up and its completely smooth. Wat.
I have a weird confession too. I've tried pretty much all the best soaps and creams, artisan and all, and one of my favorites comes in a bottle dispenser and has a ****gy name. Plus it's cheap.

Went against the grain in the 3st pass for the 1rd time this morning. Feeling smooth as fark.
Also, would you guys recommend the TOBS Sandalwood Aftershave for someone who has sensitive skin?

Best sensitive skin routine (and affordable):
Alum block while you wash out sink and razor:

Wash that off. Squirt the following on a cotton ball and rub all over face:

WITH SOME OF THESE IN THERE:

Finish your morning or whatever stuff. Then go with the classic:

Your face will feel amazing.
^^^repped brah. But can you elaborate? What do you do with the crystals? No idea what they are.
^^^repped brah. But can you elaborate? What do you do with the crystals? No idea what they are.
They are menthol crystals. They give you that awesome cool/tingly feeling. You can crush them up and put them in the witch hazel or just drop a few in.
I haven't kept up with this thread much, but I wanted to mention that I found a great blade at a great price (100 blades for $13.64):
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0077LAJT2/
I've had other Personna blades in the past that sucked balls, but these are apparently some newer and different version. And I can confirm that they are very sharp and smooth. I've seen people on Badger and Blade recommend these too. I think they are referred to as "Lab Blue" if you want to do more research.
I'm big on Feather blades - easily my favorite blade over the past 5 years. These Personna blades are almost as sharp as Feathers, if not as sharp, but they are smoother. At least in my Merkur Slant. I'm going to try them in my Muhle closed comb next, but I'm pretty sure they'll work in about any razor.
Looking into new brushes as I mentioned before, but what are you guys currently using? I have an AoS pure badger (pretty sure that's what it is)
Looking for something to face lather with. Possibly boar?
Also what's your favorite soap/cream currently?
Are there stores where I can go and smell and check out different shave products, soaps, creams, brushes, aftershaves, etc.? I've looked around and just don't know what I'm looking for... I want to check out a variety of those but it seems everything just needs to be ordered online.
I'm in Seattle til Tuesday then heading to Vegas if anyone has anywhere to check out
In reply to the guy above asking about the slant: I have a Merkur slant (regular, non-long handle) and I love it. Out of all of my razors, it's my favorite for getting the job done (especially if I haven't shaved for 3 or more days), but you can't get too lazy/quick or you'll get weepers like crazy.
My question to you guys: Is there anything that is as aggressive or more aggressive than a slant bar? By far it is my most aggressive razor, and I'm just curious what else is out there. I'm assuming the adjustables like the Futur allow for a more aggressive setting than a slant?
ive never tried a slant, but if you put your adjustable razor on the high setting you'll have a lot of blade exposure. In a way it's too much and can be uncomfortable to shave with. IMO, you may as well just use a straight instead

An open comb slant would be I suppose?

Actually, just found this. Not sure why I hadn't seen it before:

(I'm on recharge, will get a few of you back ASAP)
I Finally, FINALLY managed to get a shave with my DE and not a single nick. I always got 1 or 2 tiny ones on my neck kind of above the adams apple. Now if I can just manage to do this in under 25 minutes...

I have one and I rotate it in on occasion. It is VERY aggressive IMO.

Damn 25 minutes lol. I don't have much hair so my shaves are 15 tops if I'm taking my time. I don't do much pre shave prep though cause usually I'm straight out of the shower.
My next step is going to be to buy a hot towel steamer that I can infuse with Eucalyptus Oil. Srs.

I use an omega pro 49 for face lathering. My favorite cream is proraso red, you can get CO Bigelow from Bath and Body Works, it's proraso but just different packaging.

Look around on state surplus sites bro, they sometimes have older hospital towel heaters.

Thanks brah, I've been doing lots of research on the 49 and will check out the CO Bigelow for sure!
Final question I promise, What are some of the best, most cost effective badger brushes? I was really looking at the Parker pure badger brush, but reviews kind of throw me off. And I'm interested in a silvertip but don't want to spend >$100 the more cost effective the better
The lather was super dry yesterday I don't think I soaked the brush long enough before shaving. I don't know if it being 41 Celsius helped ha
Any of your brahs have shaving youtube channels? Which guys do you follow? I've been watching geofatboy and nick shaves. I like nick's videos but he is super positive about every product haha give out some criticism brah!

I know what you mean about Nick! Really good videos but no criticisms. They're the two main ones but Mantic59 has good ones too. Also, if you haven't already have a look on badger and blade, lots of good info there IMO.
Anyone tried the Col. conk soaps?
