a little confused about what to wear. I currently wear cross training shoes, but dont know if basketball shoes will help any better. Im asking because there r some shoes that are more centered towards the front/back such as running.
I dont know if cross training shoes are like this. If u can tell me thatll b great. If im worrying too much, then you can tell me that too

As worried as you seem to be, you didn't define what you mean by 'working out.' If your workouts are confined to the gym, squatting is the only time shoes matter. You want a hard soled shoe, not something like a Nike Shox.

I know that regular shoes would just do the trick for any other day of working out, such as chest, back, etc. but was concerned about "deadlifting/squatting shoes". thx for the info
99% of people say Chuck Taylors are the best squat/DL shoes

I use Adidas wrestling/boxing shoes with no heel whatsoever for deadlifts and low heel workboots for squats. I'm going to try out the Converse just for the hell of it.

thats wonderful! are there any other shoes with no heel that aren't converse?
i just train in any shoe i feel comfortable in. Mostly runners.
i use a pair of pumas from the f1 drivers series, they have no heel, and are really comfortable, plus they have a zipper instead of laces so nothing gets untied or anything like that
I lift at home, and quite frankly i dont wear shoes at all, just socks.

Yeah, skateboard shoes look like they just might work. Why are you worried about this? is this your latest obsession? Don't stress over it B.b. Get the skateboard shoes, or the Converse or Puma's or combat boots. Why don't you get all of them and see which works the best.

Are your current joggers comfortable in the gym? If so keep them. Any sports shoe that is comfortable is good enough.
I'd really hate to wear running shoes to the gym. It'll kill the cushinioning system and runners have zero lateral support, whereas weight shoes need a lot of lateral support. Runners will also be too high and soft... so they're actually the worse shoe you can bring to the gym. You would literally be better off in dress shoes.
I wear Adidas Supernovas, an indoor soccer shoe.
I don't like hightops.

That is like the third post where you want basketball shoes. Wear basketball shoes if you want. You obviously aren't open to any suggestion that you asked for. Basketball shoes are fine.

spend more time in gym, less time in shoe store
For regular lifting days, I wear my brooks or mizuno running shoes because I'm hitting the treadmill at the end and I don't need any lateral support for arms/chest/shoulders
For Back days I'll wear running shoes unless I'm doing heavy deads or rack deads, then it's leg day shoes
for leg days: wore out my Chuck Taylor All Stars
got some Otomix Classic Hightops to replace them at the same price (much more comfortable) replaced those with Otomix Power trainers (on sale for less than good running shoes) I make sure leg day shoes have - good ankle support, NO sole to roll over (like cross trainers or running shoes) and can be cinched up snug and still be comfortable.
The C T Allstars are good, but have NO arch support if you don't have your own - like I do
The Otomix are far more supportive, but I also paid well below 1/2 retail for mine
You need stability for heavy squats or you are gonna get rollover and lose an ankle for a while, or a knee.

Dude,are you Ok? Plenty of people on here told you the right kind of shoes. The skateboard shoes have a flat sole with arch support.The Otomix shoes are just like wrestling or karate shoes.They also sell work boots that look like sneakers that would work good too....Uh-OH more stuff to worry over. Now what?

Depends on what else you do at the gym I guess...if you're gonna do cardio or somehting after running shoes would be the way to go, but I wear skateboarding shoes and they are awesome I find...they have a very wide/flat base so leg exercises are probably a bit easier (I've also tried runnning shoes and don't like them as much), they're more comfortable (IMO), and are great for people like me with wide, ducklike feet. One problem is that they have a lot more padding on the sides and on the tongue so they probably soak up more sweat then running shoes....just my two cents

I recommend a pair of Nike Cortez.Old school running shoe that you can do cardio in and also lift in.Very solid support IMO.
