Would eating oatmeal as a night snack (9PM) be a good choice to go with, or should I just stick with some trail mix portions?
btw, is white bread bad for mass?

thanks ty! reps ...
um, oatmeal b4 bed, would certainly add mass, but not necissarly muscle mass. I forgot where i read it but eating carbs b4 bed can make the body become catabolic during sleep. And lastly i recommend dairy products like milk and cottage cheese b4 bed because it will "protect" the muscles since dairy products have casein protein.

no way eat carbs b4 bed too when ur bulking how is it gona make u in a catabolic state u need carbs for the energy to process the protein
im just after a weight gain and beans and toast b4 bed plus 400ml of orange juce full fat muilk wit da wieght gain yum lol
I would reccoment cottage cheese before bed instead of oatmeal. you wan't a slow digesting protein before bed, not necessarily carbs like in oatmeal. These excess cards that your body does not burn off will be stored as fat. Oatmeal is not ideal before bed.

take the oatmeal with the cheese
i eat loads of carbs b4 bed and im cut when hes bulking hell need all the carbs
If you want a slow digestion protein then you can just take whey with water and flax oil. Any efa fat will slow down the protein digestion rate....
dont listen to these ppl who say stuff like "dont eat this, eat this"..........EAT BOTH. Hell eat everything they've listed here and your set. If your bulking any of this is good. If your cutting its a different story. But in both scenarios oats are perfectly good before u sleep.
Eat
Eat carbs but not DIRECTLY before bed....I stop about an hour or so b4. But then right before bed I drink a hella lotta milk or take some micellean protein.

Just because you're cut doesn't mean its the right thing to do.

Right. Don't eat carbs before bed you don't need them then. Save them for earlier on in the day.
i actually read in mens health or mens fitness(not sure which) that oatmeal is an excellent choice right before bed. it also helps you fall asleep easier. i say good

i think the writers on mens health are gana no a hell of a lot more abut nutrition than u
Like someone said before, casein protein is good before bed. You need a lot of slow digesting protein. Oats aren't really a great thing to eat before bed. Pure protein will do you much better. Milk and cottage cheese are your friends.
I don't see why oatmeal would be something you would wan't to eat before bed.
Insulin sensitivity is lower at night, meaning carbs will be more likely to be stored as fat. So no oatmeal or milk. Also, oatmeal digests too quickly to be good at this time, and is too calorie dense. Personally, I eat cottage cheese, spinach, and some good fats, usally fish oil.
i think pile watever food u can get into u the more the merrier thats how u get big. dont listen te all dis crap aww dnt eat dis b4 bed eat dis dont eat dat
JUST EAT end of story

i disagree, a read of the sticky will instantly make anyone smarter than the writers of mens health.
If you want to gain mass, of any kind, you need to eat!!! I usually eat about 2 hours before bed, having a bowl of cottage cheese, sometimes mixing in some oats and raisins, washing it down with some skim milk. This mixes some complex carbs from oats, simple carbs from raisins, quick digesting whey from the cottage cheese, and the slow digesting casein from the milk. I'm bulking, so food is my friend, and I love it! If you're bulking...eat...eat...eat...and enjoy!

I don't know why, but everything you write REALLY pisses me off.
You guys can eat all the carbs before bed that you want, but when you start collecting unwanted body fat, go look at my "Diet Questions" thread on this site.

Yea , why are so many people disagreeing with me and saying that carbs are fine before bed..?
If you want carbs before bed, IMO go with skim milk. Very slow digesting, the lactose. And have some natural peanut butter, or something with EFA's, as well.

Most people who are into this "bulking/cutting" crap mind-set think you can do whatever is necessary to add muscle, including adding a ton of fat.
There are more ways to be efficient about building muscle, however if they want to keep their current mind-set, fine by me. They can sit around wondering why they keep gaining only 5-10 lbs. of muscle a year, while some other people that are doing "strange, wrong things" are gaining 20+ lbs a year, with little body fat.
It is the blind leading the blind here a lot of the times, and good information is usually ignored in favor of bad information.

because they are
I've been eating 2 cups of oatmeal with a teaspoon of cinnamon and sweetened with honey + 30g isolate + 1 banana or avocado + 1 tablespoon of peanut butter before bed and seeing massive gains. Oatmeal increases melatonin production and produces a better sleep. Cinnamon and honey are loaded with antioxidants and help with inflammation and cinnamon helps manage blood sugars. I hit Gold's in a fasted state first thing in the morning. 6 A.M. 30 grams Isolate right after. Then a massive breakfast at 7:45 4 eggs, 2 French toast, 3 slices bacon, 1 1\2 cups oatmeal and 2 bananas. I begin my day as a carpenter burning calories all day working. I Eat a peanut butter sandwich at 10 A.M. and then lunch at 12:30. Snack at 3:30 and dinner at 6. Then back to the late night TRUE! MASS GAINER THAT DOESNT COST YOU 75$ a month. Stop wasting your money on that crap and start eating Oatmeal if you truly want to add muscle weight. Before this diet I weighed in at 180lbs 6'2'' was cut and had muscle. After 4 months of this diet I'm now 195lbs and bigger than ever. Oh and Cannabis is a bonus recovery agent.
The endocannabinoid system has been shown to have a homeostatic role by controlling several metabolic functions, such as energy storage and nutrient transport. It acts on peripheral tissues such as adipocytes, hepatocytes, the gastrointestinal tract, the skeletal muscles and the endocrine pancreas. It has also been implied in modulating insulin sensitivity. Through all of this, the endocannabinoid system may play a role in clinical conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis, which may also give it a cardiovascular role.[59]
