It's pretty individual dependent and will depend on the volume you are doing and your ability to recover. Three times a week is pretty excessive IMO.
depends if you do 8 sets a session or 3. personally, i do a ****load of volume because otherwise, i don't grow. the more sets i do, the more i grow.
muscles like abs, calves, and forearms, you can beat the **** out of them to a pulp because they recover quickly.
Well Im doing 4 sets 10 reps each.
every muscle every 5 days
I work back, chest, tris twice a week
bi's, legs, shoulders, traps once a week
seems to be working for me
I train each muscle group once per week. 3X a week does sound like a lot.
i do chest, shoulders, arms, legs, back once a week, calves and forearms twice a week. Abs four times a week.
If you are progressing- adding weight and/or reps to your compound lifts, and you're adding muscle, then it's not too much, for you, anyway. If there's no progress, you need to re-evaluate your routine/nutrition/rest.

True. Also if you have been doing the exact same routine for several months now it is time to change it up. Any routine (within reason) will work, but no one routine will work forever.
As for 3x a week frequency it depends. Many people do well on the 5x5 routine which hits every muscle group 3x a week.
If your goal is bodybuilding, once a week is most likely enough if you're doing say 12-15 sets a workout per bodypart. More is not necessarily better, focus on doing quality sets and reps and make them count. Your muscles grow when they're resting, not when they're working.
The question is how long have you been following the routine and are you making gains? The important thing to remember is that there is nothing set in stone. You need to figure out what training frequency and volume works best for you. I've been happy with a push/pull routine hitting the muscles 2x per week but someone else might find 1x per week split works better for them.
