Of course I can improve upon my diet but I am eating better food for sure. Yes I know there are lots of carbs in pasta, rice and potatoes and yes I do eat those foods in moderation, but I also eat lean meats and veg with them.
I don't eat seafood so those foods are unavailable to me.
I don't eat fried foods anymore - except for steak, which I have once a fortnight.
So whilst there are areas of improvement, I don't think my diet is that bad. Certainly at lunch times in the past I used to eat things like cheese toasties, pizza, packaged sandwiches which are 350+ cals in them. I have cut that out completely and eat much more salad. So I KNOW I am going in the right direction.
I am perfectly content at the rate I am losing weight - around 1lb every week/10 days. I have short term, medium term and long term goals and have the motivation to meet them.
As I said in my OP my short term is to lose a stone from where I was when I started (235lbs) So I have 4 more lbs to reach that. Next goal is to be under 200lbs. Long term goal is weigh between 80kg - 90kg.
I have those targets and the motivation to meet them and I am seeing results.

Given that you think carbs are bad shows you really need to do some research. You have a lot of misconceptions bought about by listening to food industry marketing (i.e. Carbs are bad, breakfast is the most important meal, dietary fat is bad). Unless you are willing to let go of those, your progress will be limited and you may never get reach your long term goal. We only want to help.

The reluctance to chsnge your views is astonishing. You're asking for advice but shoot down the help that is given from people that have a clue of what they are doing.

I'm asking for advice, looking at the different views and opinions people have and I thank those that have given advice and I do take bits and pieces from what others have said.
I don't shoot down the help that is given from people - nor do I listen to what the food industry say. Just because I believe breakfast is an important aspect of leading a healthier lifestyle does not mean I cannot think outside of the box, so to speak.

I think we can all agree that abs are made in the kitchen. Having an accurate number on what is in each meal is important.
However, big Ed has a fair amount to lose so as long as he is in somewhat of a deficit the fat should come off. Eating 70% healthy sounds 100% healthier than what he was eating before.
Good work on losing 10lbs but it's only the start so keep up the work and don't slack because it could soon go back on.
Hit the gym hard and use this thread to post what you eat. People here are here to help with constructive criticism.
There is a ladies section if you are feeling sensitive ;)

Hello all,
Firstly I want to apologise to everyone if they thought that I didn't appreciate the feedback you have given me. Let me assure you that I do truly appreciate this.
I thank AWillis for the above post and good advice - except the ladies section as if I want to see ladies abs this forum wouldn't be it ;)
I do have some news for you all. I am now 218.6lbs which I am proud of because that is more than a stone that I have lost since November. Small steps I grant you, but at least I am going in the right direction!
I went to the supermarket the other day and bought some food for my daily lunch at work. I bought some wraps, Cucumber, Tomatoes and red onion with some lettuce and a pack of ham and chicken slices.
One wrap is 190 calories also one wrap is enough for me. So taking into consideration the salad and either ham or chicken that must be roughly 350 cals altogether? I also have a packet of crisps, which are made my kellogs!!! but they are only 90cals to be fair. Plus I have some fruits too. So all in all I roughly consume 500 cals a day for my lunch.
At the gym I have started to do some bench pressing. I find I can only bench press 25kg - 12.5kg on either side - I do 3/4 sets on that. I have also begun to do squats and dead lifting. I have noticed my biceps and shoulders are more defined. I've also noticed my work trousers is more spacious than before when it was tight and my jumpers are very baggy!
Again I do appreciate all the feedback you have given me and I hope I haven't given anyone the wrong impression.
I have come here to learn, to ask and to put into words my journey thus far!
Thanks,
Ed

Hello,
I haven't updated in well over 3 months.
I am now 213lbs down from 217lbs when I last posted.
I have been 213lbs for about 4-5 weeks now though and I have seemed to have plateaued somewhat.
I still go to the gym 3-4 times a week and still eating the same way I did when I started this thread and lost weight.
After speaking to my colleague, who is also a contributor, to this forum I have decided to be pro active about this.
I decided to set myself the goal of being 210lbs by end of June.
I have decided to cook my own meals and have no carbs in those meals. Just meat (Beef, chicken & Pork) and vegetables (Broccoli, spinach etc) plus salad (Tomatoes, Cucumber, Pepper etc).
So to just eat roughly 600-700 cals per day eating things like salad for lunch with some chicken or cottage cheese which have high protein and minimal cals.
Do you think this is the right thing to do or should I do a more gradually process and eat 1000 cals per day and lowering - if possible - from that.
I do have the motivation to be pro active about this and come out of this rot of being stuck on 213lbs.
I have also decided to step up my time in the gym and go 5 days a week with Wednesday and Friday being my rest days. I have started to play badminton, which I do every Monday so I have changed my routine in this way.
In the gym I am there for at least 75mins and do weights first and finish off with some cardio.
As my colleague said it is about the intake of cals into the body and I really want to make a renewed effort to see what results I can achieve by doing the above.
