Aware me on why you would need a DAC and an amp?
I do have a high end pair of headphones, but I am still an audio noob...
The only thing I have right now is a FiiO DAC.
the dac gets the 0's and 1's (digital signal) from your transport (which can be cd transport, pc usb or anything with an spdif output) and converts it into an analogue signal which can the be amplified by your amp.
in laymans terms, it makes the music clearer and more transparent than not using a dedicated/premium DAC.
i find this an easy and concise way of explaining things

Audio Technica ATH-A700
Not a bad set of headphones, really comfortable and great sound although the mids are a little depressed imo.
Massive set of cans though definitely a set for home.

Spend $250 on Sennheiser HD595's when I was in the 8th grade so I could hear better while playing Counter Strike 1.6... SRS. Bad move to spend that much on headphones for a game that costs $20 back then but they really are good, I still use them today.
