wouldn't it make the muscle adapt to being hit constantly and then become harder and stronger to absorb the force to protect organs
Whilst I'm not entirely sure on whether it develop your abs, or anything like that. I know boxers and probably other fighting sports do these kind of drills to train a fighter to get used to the punches, which does make sense, after being punched and play fighting with my brother for 16 years now, I cN really take a punch and pain doesn't faze me as mix as it did a few years ago.
I know some like to lightly hut their abs, after a strong workout so there's more of a BURN, never knew why TBH looked silly to me, but hey.
Each to their own right ;)
It's for fighters. Getting used to being punched and practice properly receiving a strike
Getting punched in the abs, gets you more used to the feeling of being punched in the abs.
This is all.

that's intelligent.

Teaches you to absorb a hit better with controlled breathing.
No other benefit
strengthens inner abdominals to resist shock because you have to rapidly tense them

so it does make them stronger
can you do if with the chest too, tense chest them punch it really hard
[QUOTE=Shogar25;1148057823]so it does make them stronger

no it's different
you tense the core to protect organs, for the chest it's a different story.
The biggest benefit it will have for you Opie, is that you'll have a higher mental tolerance to difficult situations/pain. This alone makes it worth experimenting with... IMO.
Being mentally tough helps in all aspects of life, especially when pain is involved (i.e. that last rep in the set)
It will damage your organs.
This has to be one of the dumbest questions asked in a while.

This. You can say "boxers do it" but look at them, they get brain damage and die.
I train ufc and we always do this in sparring
Just lift.
My friend thinks the same damn thing...
And he wonders why I'm bigger than him.

I didn't know UFC was a fighting style, or even a sport for that matter. Brb blackbelt in ultimate fighting championship

Beat me too it. Last week i saw two scrubs doing this acting all badass in their tap out gear. One would do crunches while the other would kneel on his toes and furiously punch the kid doing crunches in the stomach after every rep.
OP you should try punching your face muscles. Facial aesthetics will be through the roof!
Ex-Competitive boxer checking in.
I was punched in the face probably 100 times a day for a year and all it did was mentally prepare me for future hits. The last punch before I left hurt just as bad as the first punch I ever received - I just knew how to deal with it. It's the same with abs. I learnt how to position my body to take a hit better, but it didn't do chit for abdominal strength.
If you're thinking like iron body training that monks do, that doesn't actually harden their muscles. They continuously cause micro-fractures in their bones which repairs more dense than the original bone, making it stronger.
INW no, it will not make your abs stronger. But even if it did, why the hell would you want to get punched in the stomach repeatedly when you could just do some crunches? Getting hit isn't a pleasant experience.
inb4 everyone saying that it does is retarded.
Someone told me it makes the blood flow better to them, his an idiot. I don't think it does anything I think it's just a myth that it makes them harder.

Ex karate champ checking in, that's pretty much the answer, it doesn't make your abs stronger, but it teaches you when to tense your abbs, obviously you can't tense your abbs the whole time while fighting so eventually it becomes your reflex, you also don't over tense to the point where you might chit yourself but just enough not to get winded.
Basically if you are a fighter then its useful otherwise no point. Hope this helps.

You go to a class that teaches numerous fighting styles instead of just one
