ER FTW! Leave the bitch work to the floors. And OP do nursing only if you want to if not, you will regret it.
agreed, if you do nursing you are best off with ER. at least there you will have more procedure type stuff to do. floors hand out pills and generally do the most meaningless bullsh*t imaginable. but of course that's nothing compared to the senior living centers........oh lawd.
-
finance is limitless. but its saturated and comptetitive.
nursing has a salary cap. not as prestigous. however gauranteed salary and job.
i know many nurses maing 80k a year with amazing benefits.
i'm currently in nursing school. i'm surrounded by tons of women. which is nice...being one of only few guys you stand out as a student and candidate, which is nice.

surprised no one has mentioned becoming a Physician Assistant. More autonomy and decision-making ability than a murse, better job opportunities in some areas, more career flexibilty, and higher salary potential. Im considering it myself.

First year associates at firms like goldmansacs, UBS, JPMorgan tyipcally get $90k/year + bonus, but except to work minimum 65 hours/week if you can even get a job there, since you'll be dealing with lots of competition.
I'm doing nursing since I screwed up my grades when I first started college and I go to a tier 3 college. Also whether you have an associates or bachelors you get paid the same. My sister is a RN at a hospital and makes $70k/year working 3x 12hr shifts, they also get a 3% raise per year.
If you can land a job at a IB, you could probably make it through nursing Anesthesiology school and make $150k+/year, so I would say both careers your salary will depend on the amount of work you put in.
-
ROFL. If you're seriously weighing Finance vs Nursing then Finance clearly isn't for you.
-
op is 23 and so ignornat. youre not gonna be making 100k in finance. thats for ivey leagues in top 5 of their class.
lol...FUuuuuuuu
but dat dere radiation though...... inb4cancer
lulz
i stand outside of the room during exposure and if its a baby or something that needs to be immobilized i always force a parent or family member to hold
I think the pay might corespond to
- the cost of the procedures. Since medical imaging tends to be quite profitable for hospitals, they pay medical imaging staff more?
-The radiation exposer. You are shortening your lifespan
-???what else
yea, those machines cost millions of dollars+ quality maintenance but it pays for itself in no time at all
the crew of jersey shore will receive more radiation from their tanning beds than i will ever have
-
overall, x-ray is just a small step under nursing as far as pay goes, except where i work we get paid the same or more
and that's just with regular x-ray. CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc pay goes up even more
job is easy as hell
90% of exams are less than 5 pictures, almost everybody is digital now so there is no dark room/processing, the pictures show right up on the computer
i get the patient, take a few pictures, and tell them to GTFO
What do you think about Radiation Therapy? I'm in my third, out of four, semesters. Only 9 kids in my program now. 2 got kicked out and 1 dropped.
People keep telling me the market is horrible for us but IDK, we'll see. Have you ever considered being a traveling tech?

As a murse (no homo), i'm obviously going to tell you that nursing is a great career that requires a lot of responsibility. The pay is good depending on where you live.... however, it has to be something you WANT to do...srs.
what spec? I'll be graduating in 2 years. right now I'm feeling neonatal intensive care.
pick finance if you want a job you can leave at work. Nursing follows you home. Sometimes you will find yourself thinking of your patients. Nursing can be draining and requires a lot of personal care and attention to avoid burnout. like ^he said, you have to WANT to do it otherwise you will burnout fast, be a horrible nurse and hate your job and hate your life.
nursing is about people. finance is about making money.
-
bump
I'm curious what type of jobs finance grads are working

traveling tech is my dream job, know a guy that did it for a few years, was pulling in around 100k
my friend is in radiation therapy school right now, he lives in utah and has a job lined up after he graduates so IDK how the market is for that

WTF MAKES YOU THINK YOU WILL MAKE 100K WITH A DEGREE IN FINANCE? YOU STUPID PHUCK.
Degree in finance is moer versitile...you can get into different industries.

Yeah I'm hoping of becoming a traveling therapist. I'd work around the area for a year or so to get money lined up and then go but then I hear of therapists who said they always wanted to travel but lost motivation after working for a while so IDK. He's lucky to have a job lined up, in NY its not like that :( We still make bank though.

Do what you are passionate about. You will make the most by doing what you are good at.
Where you go doesn't matter as much as who you know. Do internships and make connections. That's what gets people jobs.
-
lol @ making fun of male nurses. Hospitals really love employing male nurses because they can (generally speaking) handle the heavy lifting more than the women can. And men can bring a unique perspective to the health industry.
But like some one mentioned...nursing has to be in your nature. You gotta love people and have a great deal of care and empathy for them. And some one mentioned that as a nurse, you get stuck as being a nurse. There are LOTS of different branches of nursing lol.

This thread got me thinking of going back to school to get a Finance degree.. I have a degree in Marketing but I cant even land a job more than 30k or anything that doesn't suck. I probably could get it done part time in like 2 years because a lot of my courses from marketing would carry over.

Lol....wonder what the starting salary for a finance major is...
For those going "Only doing something for money is wrong"
Isn't college an investment on which you expect a return to pay back the investment.
I chose Nursing because I have an interest in it. Finance just sounded like a way to make money.
i wasnt really saying its "wrong" .. just saying that there are plenty of jobs out there which pay extremely well, and becoming an RN is definately no easy task (i assume finance is hard also) and im pretty sure i would lose motivation if money is all that kept me going. with that being said, chances are you will not be rich as an RN. above average? yes, you'll never go without and have great benefits, but you'll earn them.
