Does anyone here use guar gum or xantham gum to make their whey shakes thicker? If yes, how much do you add, say, per 500 ml to get a nice thick, pudding-like consistency?

Slight OT: you could use casein rather than whey protein, which will result in a thicker shake adjusted for volume. Of course, you could also just eat whole foods, which would be the superior option.

^^^ This. And to answer your question OP, I add 1/4 teaspoon of xanthum gum to 300 ml of shake to make it kinda thick. It isnt gloopy thick but it is pretty milkshake-like. Experiment yourself a bit but do not use too much as you will begin to taste it and it will not be nice.
Full fat ice cream the best

And normally I make oatmeal with milk and whey, so I don't need to use guar or xantham, but with me being out of commission for a while and hence eating less, I want to make the best out of shakes (and before you ask, it's one shake a day purely because I have lots of whey lying around and where I'm at it's cheaper than getting meat ;)). I don't have gum yet, as I wanted to make sure I don't have to add a whole lot prior to actually buying it.
For Guar Gum, 1/4 tsp. is ~.7g (serving size is 1/2 tsp and 1.4grams)
You could use Greek yogurt instead to thicken it...
Yeah, gwar is awesome!

Yup, I add 1/8-1/4 tsp to my shakes. Don't add too much or it will become to gummy. Invest in a milkshake maker for an amazing shake.
Alright, thanks everyone. Do you have to use a mixer once you put guar gum in, or do you get consistency and thickness by just shaking it up in, say, a shaker?

I just use my shaker and it comes out nice and thick.
