Not sure if idiot but pretty sure...
Saw a big dude put 315 on the bench, lift it off then stared doing leg raises while holding the weight. I think wtf then he adds more weight. Set after set. At the end he's holding around 385 over his chest doing leg raises. Not a single bench rep Big dude looked like he might have been able to bench it but wtf was the point in holding all that and doing leg raises?
So I'm at LA Fitness.. And I overhear a really skinny guy talking to his spotter while at the bench press... Before he began his set, he said, "I hate the free weight bench press. I rather the one at Planet Fitness because the machine does all the work. You dont have to balance the weight. The Planet Fitness bench press is so much better." And then he literally kept going on about how much better the Smith Machine was then an actually barbell bench press. Honestly, I was shocked, I never heard so much stupid come out of one person's mouth
lol

I'm a pretty mellow guy. This kid just really annoyed me.
What's up with those guys who wear a belt on every set, in between sets, on every exercise they do?

Saw a dude using weighted BBs (one in each hand) for DB press. WTF? He kept them parallel with his body so they wouldnt hit eachother. Hahahahah. Wish I could have got a pic. Funny chit.
There is a subset of idiots in my gym who are incapable of engaging in conversation at a normal volume. My gym is huge...seriously, it's like 400 feet in any direction. You can look around and see dozens of people talking to each other between sets, and you can't pick out a single word that any of them are saying to each other. Then you see one of these d-bags and can hear every word they're saying. And they're all peppered with f-this and mother-that. Seriously, no need.
Here's another one. There's this guy that's been going to my gym for over 10 years. He's probably 50 and huge; he's a welder by trade. I usually see him on his leg day, and he's usually doing super heavy squats and deadlifts. The problem? He has a handicapped parking sticker and parks across two handicapped spaces, I assume to protect his multi-thousand dollar rims. I try to be sensitive and aware and all that, but can't come up with a single disability that would require a handicapped sticker but allows you to do five sets of heavy squats.
I saw this one guy trying to bench 345. His bench press turned into a glute bridge and then his buddies were all congratulating him on his PR. WTF.
I think I am lol.

yup.
THe biggest idiots to me aren't the ones who do things wrong. I see that stuff all the time from a guy doing cable tricep pushdowns with so much weight he was using his whole uppper body to move the weight, to my favorite--high school guys--loading up the Bench or squat bar, barely breaking the lock on their kness or elbows and thinking they "lifted" that huge amount of weight. No, the big idiots are the ones who are half your size who tell you you have no idea what you are talking about when you try to help them. I am always thinkng to myself as they tell me I have no idea what I'm talking about "ok. look at you in the mirror and look at me in the mirror. Now who do you think someone else would listen to if being instructed on how to do this exercise?"
Occasionally I am rewarded though. When I was on vacation back home in Orlando I was training at the Dr. Phillips Gold's Gym and there were two slim guys around 20 who were trying to do bench with too much weight and consequently doing it all wrong as they were only coming barely half way down on the rep (thus ensuring a good tricep workout but not so much chest). I spoke to them about it after a few sets and, since I was doing bench at that moment as well I went through what a rep is suppsed to look like and WHY. I think it also helped that like them, I was really skinny when I started lifting, but I had to learn to be patient and do the exercises correctly and the strength would come in time. They were thrilled, and I even had them spot me on a couple sets as we went over Form. Sadly, these moments are few and far between. The real idiots though are not the ones doing an exercise incorrectly, it's the ones who won't listen and continue doing their exercise(s) very wrong.
It's mind boggling to me when people where sun glasses in the gym. I suppose if your eyes were extremely senstitive to light it may be understandable....or maybe if you had a migraine.....I just don't get it.
das
yup
While I was resting in between heavy squat sets, I was sitting on a bench a few feet away from the power rack and the bar was completely loaded w/ the weight I was lifting. And some dude comes and takes off the safeties and I tell him I'm using it. Then he's like "oh sorry" and doesn't even bother to put the safeties back up. Completely lack of etiquette. If you make a mistake it's fine but you should fix what you screwed up.
