pvp looks pretty fun.
question, i never played diablo before..
so the items u grind thru during campaign, you level up and then u go to a arena and u can pvp?
kinda confused how theres a PVE and PVP.. can someone explain?
reps
well in d2 there was no seperate pvp arena. Anything outside of town = fair game. But you had to be in town to go "hostile" against someone. So you couldn't just instantly kill someone without warning (without using a few tricks or exploits). you had to go to town, hostile them, they would receive a big red warning on their screen, and then you had to leave town, go find them out in the wilderness, and kill em
But in d3 it sounds like they pussified it and just made no pvp in the regular game, and then a separate pvp area where you can battle each other. sounds like a sissy way to me =P

There are 4 of us that are gonna take days off that week and get together, drink, and do a local LAN party and play the game straight through.

I don't think that'll happen so easily as you think, here's a quote from another thread.
The interesting thing blizzard is doing is that it is like D2 pre LOD, in that the first time you kill a boss, you get good loot. Every kill after that though is nothing special.
The good loot is being put on Rare and Champion mobs that are randomly distributed throughout the world, with their accompanying random attributes (I think it is 5 in Inferno). This should hopefully cut down on the insane amount of farming that LOD became.
Who knows if it will work though.
-
^^ yea I read that today.
No more boss runs. Makes it more fun though, to farm items you're actually going out and hunting for rare enemies, instead of just teleporting around to get to the boss, in the same spot he's always in, and killing him. then reloading the game.
also means you won't have to make a new game every 4 minutes to farm items. you can run around a lot of places looking for rare monsters

Hard to say if I will be there playing at midnight, since I ordered CE from amazon and don't expect it midnight obviously, plus considering I lift now, I don't want to have a lack of sleep fuking up my recovery.
Weird. I've always been a be the first person to get it as soon as it's publicly available type of person.
In order from what I remember, though there might be some game releases I have forgotten about their midnight launches:
iPhone 3g - went at like 3am, couldn't sleep the night before, waited in line till like 10am
Wii - Ready to campout, but wal mart just gave us tickets to retrieve for the next morning
WoW:BC - Played at midnight, new tauren druid.
WoW: WotLK CE - I don't remember much, I just remember having the CE probably midnight from my brother.
Halo 3 - Bought at midnight launch, started campaign at 3 am with friend, beat campaign at 10 am
SC2 - Midnight, bought CE with bro, came home to the preinstall I had for a while. Played the campaign a bit till maybe 3 am and went to sleep. Finished the campaign in the next couple of days and then slowly played 1v1s again. This is probably the route I'm headed towards for D3, not so much that it takes over all other things, just something to play.
WoW: Cata - I had quit WoW for a while already. Restarted by buying this digital version, restarting a goblin and thought I would just "play the storyline" and not care about lvling or anything. Internet issues so could not play like until 2am, and I just kept trying. I drank some red bulls but they don't really affect me. By the end of the next day I was sleep deprived and I think went from lvl 1-54 as a goblin. I eventually ended up being in a top 10 10 man US guild but I quit soon after b/c it took over too much.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus - Not really anything drastic, just went in the morning to go buy it on release day. Couldn't sleep that well again like the iPhone 3g. I was hyped.
Hard decision. I've always been one of those people that liked having fresh starts to compete in lvling and getting items, but I wasn't sleep depriving myself, though I did spend every other waking moment playing the game. I would have to buy a digital version to play at midnight and then give it off to a friend when I upgrade to CE.

I'll be playing at midnight and will play normal up until the point of having to unlock hardcore mode than I am playing strictly hardcore. I figure not only will it provide the biggest challenge and e-peen stroking but the gear will sell nicely on the real AH if I choose to do it.

i have a feeling its not because they're trying to prevent farming, but to prevent bots.

What kind of rig you guys think I will need to max settings for D3? My current one is operating as a HTPC, so I will need to order some new parts.

I'm wondering the same but how it would run on my laptop. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, fairly new

Honestly dude, you probably won't need anything ridiculous to max it out. I think Blizzard said something along the lines that they're not making the game to be some graphical powerhouse and any decently powerful PC should be able to run it maxed.
I'd say for video cards you could probably max it out easily with a GTX 560Ti or above or for AMD a Radeon 6870 or above.
As for the CPU, any modern quad core CPU should be fine, preferably a new one though, any AMD Phenom II / AMD Bulldozer or any last gen i7 or current gen i5/i7 should be more than enough.

oh you're probably right dude i didn't think of tht.

OP was like 2 years old when d1 came out
-
Powerhouse PCs wont be needed. Blizzard always wants to make sure that majority of gamers can run their games properly without having to upgrade their PCs.
Just have a decent dedicated card and a mid-high end dual core or a low-end quad core.

Your point? I played d1 and d2 when I was like 10-14
Never knew that in order to enjoy something you have to play it right when it comes out...

Well, you pretty much can do the same thing with D2, so it's not really a plus, they pretty much just took away something that makes item hunting much easier(boss runs) and replaced it with a much more "adventurous" approach psychology-wise anyway, because at the end of the day you'll be doing the same thing, after you killed that specific champion/rare mob you'll recreate the game and look for it again, except this time not at the same place and it'll be more tedious or "fun" but that's subjective.
-
Barbarian reporting in. My angus is heavily peppered.
-
Still not sure how I feel.. Was in love with D2 but this seems to have stretched too far from what made the previous games so successful....

Well, it depends. The mobs themselves aren't entirely that "rare" so tp speak. Anyone who played D2, in an area like the Outer Steppes there, at the lower levels, are generally like two rare or champion mobs. In the den of evil there are usually three. It will be more tedious to find them potentially, but each you find is also a unique combination of abilities (5 random) making is quite challenging to defeat. So rather than the same rinse and repeat, known strategy for each boss over and over, when you find the mobs now it will actually be a fight so to speak.

I will cry when I find a monster with the "lightning" attribute and I get my angus raped by it
tears of joy

Wasn't it the same in terms of immunity and resistances for D2? I kind of remember Rakinishu's area/map had about 2-3 rare & champions with random immunities and auras whenever I would hunt him, only they had shitty to zero abilities :P

These aren't the immunity/resistances. These are the Multi-shot, lightning enchanted, fanaticism, etc. Except now they get a bunch of them in Inferno. As an example from a Hell gameplay video a mob is Electrified, Vortex, Desecrator, Telelporter. This is just a regular blue mob, not a rare which are harder.
Electrified is like D2, puts out bolts.
Vortex - the mob ports your character into their meelee range
Desecrator - The mob summons pools under the players that do damage if you don't move out
Teleporter - like d2, mob ports around.
The harder versions of these guys are the ones you'll want to be "Farming"

I will legitly own every one of you. I have a long story of diablo ownage. I have nuked all enemies who talked against my back. I've farmed for windforce for months and months each day. I've said no to sex more than 21 times because of a good trade (shako, soj). I will be the sickest geared brah and I WILL provide pics of my 10/10 chars in D3.

Yeah exactly what I thought, extra abilities were what's missing with champion/rare mobs in D2, they had their stock abilities like in chaos sanctuary mobs(templars or w.e they were called that had curse skills) but they were almost always the same except for their resistances and immunities which were randomized. So I'm guessing the PvE in diablo 3 will be well worth it just like D2 except more fun and possibly more tedious than D2, you've almost sold me 55% into buying it, still not too sure how I'll like the game though still feels too dumbed down just to fit majority of the market and not specializing like dark/demons souls/Diablo1&2 did.
