They might be using 55lb squat bars - theyre quite a bit more durable and much harder to bend.

im not sure. i have a bench at home that has a skinny barbell and i weighed it and its actually 35lbs. The ones at my school where I work out are skinny but theyre 45. The ones at LA fitness are thick and awkward I think they might be 55lbs. Its really impossible to know unless you weigh the damn things cause most barbells are all different weights between 35 and 55

my gym has all 20KG (44lbs), except for one 25KG (55lbs)..which is clearly marked as 25KG
I used to have a home gym that when I bought it, it said 14 lb. bar on the cover of the thing. I wish I had taken a picture of it. Arbitrary # of pounds for a bar 0.0
hmm for sure. well hey u guys know if i should use the smith machine instead of the barbells if i absolutely have no spotters around
Standard Olympic bars are 45lbs (20kg)

20kg = about 44lbs. Just an fyi :)

no. If you're Squating just dump the bar. You might cause some attention but that attention is sure a hell of a lot better then using the smith machine. If you're benching, just don't get pinned ;)
hmm for sure. well hey u guys know if i should use the smith machine instead of the barbells if i absolutely have no spotters around
if you have no spotter then make sure the safety pins are in the proper position and just bail out. Smith machines can burn in hell
For collars, I have a pair that are virtually weightless, 1/4lb collars, 1-1/4lb collars, and big 5.5lb collars.
20kg = about 44lbs. Just an fyi :)
whoops, a typo rather than bad maths:D fixed!
A Standard barbell (Olympic Barbell) is 45lbs, not matter what anyone tells you, Olympic Barbells weigh 45 lbs.
