Hey guys, just wondering how good of a cardio workout shadow boxing is? How long should I be aiming to do this for? And also would it be bad not to do any leg cardio (running)? Any tips are welcome!

I don't know about shadow boxing but I hit a heavy bag for about 8 3-5 minute intervals and in this interval go straight up berserk on the bag. Also, work on combinations but I punch as hard as I can and it gets my heart racing. I break a good sweat and it feels a lot better than running.

Thanks for the reply. I would do this but I dont have a punching bag and cant really afford one.
As long as you get that heart rate up bro, last time I Wii boxed it felt pretty good :)
HIIT ftw
Shadow boxing is great.
throw in some
burpees
push ups
squat jumps
running on the spot
skipping
search plyometrics
Train in intervals. Work for a minute rest for 30 seconds or 3 minutes if your training to box.
shadow boxing is good but i would rather go crazy with the bag,try throwing some punch and kicks, you will feel good.
If you can get your hands on Bas Ruttens MMA workout on your ipod, its a great session. I has boxing, Kickboxing, and MMA workouts on it.
Shadow boxing can be a good HIIT cardio workout. Best to get a timer of some sort and go hard (really hard) for a round (3 or 5 minutes) then rest a short time (1 minute or so) and repeat a few times. You just have to keep up the intensity.
I shadow box but punching with 5lb dumb bells. I have the non metal exterior ones. Really draining after a while. I usually mix it up with pull ups and push ups and leg lifts though.
Shadow boxing is a great cardio.. Go really hard for 3-5 minutes 3-5 rounds by mixing combinations of punching, kicking, kneeing, elbowing, etc.. Rest for a minute between rounds
