what happens if you dont eat enough protein?

Like i weight 170 lbs and i take only 100 g of protein.

then you dont get as good of gains as you would if you ate more

you wont gain as much as if you ate 210 grams of protien.


you wont be gaining alot.

Your muscles will cry to you because of the shortage of protein in them. They starve and always have an urge for it.
I don't always get like 2 grams of protein per body weight per day...actually I don't think I have in awhile. School f***s me over. And basically my muscles cry in the middle of the night, I hear them.

I know the thread is 5 years old but I am only replying because this page came up first on Google when I searched. I think replying is better than starting a new topic.

I wondered about not eating enough protein... you can look at it two ways - longer recovery and "cannibalization" of muscles, but I don't know of anything to back up anything, I mean can't you just get away with eating less protein if you allowed say double the days for recovery? What about the cannibalization? Where's the proof that even exists? Surely you would have to be doing heavy weights and SERIOUSLY cutting the protein out to cause that and oh my god you'd feel like total s.h.1.t and almost certainly end up collapsing, like those models do on stage that fast except they aren't lifting... no, I don't believe any cannibalization ever happens for anyone except the most extreme cases where to eat so little you'd have a migraine and hardly be able to stand, you'd feel sick with hunger. I reckon all eating less protein does is prolong recovery time, thats about it.

Why won't you gain as much? I know you won't gain as much because you're effectively halving your workouts, spending 4 days recovering instead of 2 but the same muscle would be gained from the workout I think - or else why do your muscles "ache" the whole time... they are building up in strength again, so if you got just as torn from the workout, how the hell can it matter how long your body takes to build it up bigger again, why can't you just eat normally and have longer to recover? The only answer is the muscles cannibalize which I don't believe, maybe if you were in a concentration camp.

Even though its a joke, people cutting protein out (by not getting enough) probably do eat more fat as a result and... you are what you eat.

I know I noticed the benefit of whey protein when I have it or don't have it, recovery is far quicker for me with that stuff but I can't always afford it.

Baked beans have protein but if that was your only source of protein you'd be screwed, IMO choosing a good source like whey/egg is even more important than the protein itself, choose the best fuel and you can only ever get the strongest body you personally can achieve.

alot of time its not as much the quantity but the kind of protein and how and when you take it take your whey protein blends right after you work out casien/egg proteins before bed because they digest slower you dont always have to supplement all your protein intake for the day but you wont see the gains that you would if you were taking at least your body weight in protein the more the better
