protien could be upped via whey drink after work out? i could easily make the meals smaller and eat them more often would that be any better?

How am I supposed to know that was your diet before?
At any rate, no veggies or dairy (eggs don't count for what I am talking about), lack of overall variety in grains and fruits and no good fats, possibly not enough calories.
Growing boy is not a growing boy.
You don't have to listen to me. Just take your progress's word for it.

IMO too much carbs, too little protein, no good fats. bananas for snack are a good way to pack on some bad weight

In order to gain muscle, you will need to double that intake. Keeping the calories clean will ensure minimized fat gain.

timing is key. its okay to take in simple carbohydrates like bread and pasta (i'd stay away from processed sugar) for breakfast and immediately after a workout. the rest of the day most of your carbs should be from fruits. also, have some more protein, fiber (eat some beans and kill two birds with one stone), healthy fats (nuts are your best friend but watch the calories), and veggies (which you completely left out? lol) and you'll be ripped in no time. good luck :)

^ those
Why does everyone turn to rice and pasta when they are trying to start dieting? Just because it is low fat, doesn't mean it will keep you from getting fat.
Increase protein from meats, dairies, eggs, legumes, every source.
Limit your large carb intakes to first meal and post workout meal.
Increase healthy fats, from oils, eggs, fish, nuts, beans, etc.

Those are good times to have carbs but not necesarry to limit them to only those times.
why?

i wasn't saying have no carbs any other time. I just said large carb intakes.
I would never wish that someone cease carb intake at any meal. Carbs are fantastic. Especially enriched, processed ones, smothered in packaged gravy and processed cheese. :p
IMO,
You want to lower bf % - lower carb intake. NOT eliminate them but reduce them. Eat good carbs, the kind found in vegetables. Not simple sugars found in fruits.
In addition, eat good fats to replace the bad carbs that caused the weight gain in the first place as an efficient energy source. The kind of fats found in olives, avocados, and nuts.
Some people do not process carbs for energy as efficiently as others. They tend to convert them into fat. Again, best strategy - reduce them.
And there is no simple number equation for every human on the planet. Considering all the variables involved (Body type, Fitness level, Age, Type of exercise, Intensity, Overall health, and even Genetics).
OP, you will have to monitor and subsequently tweak your daily caloric intake of carbs and good fats to discover your own unique diet that allows your body to lose fat and save/build muscle efficiently.

for what its worth, i eat 2 bananas and 1 apple a day, every day and Ive lost about 120lbs...so saying "eating fruit for a snack is a bad idea for weightloss"...is well..a bad idea

well obviously you were a fatass, im not saying youll get fat eating fruit, im saying if you wanna get to sub 10% bf and still keep your muscle mass then fruit for snack is a bad idea
also, i dont know your diet, if most of your carbs come from those 2 bananas and an apple, you obviously wont gain fat from those carbs, but if you eat 3 big meals with complex carbs included then that fruit is too much
