Homemade Deadlifting Platform
I just finished making a platform for home-gym deadlifting on the cheap and thought I’d share my project details. I used Detard’s platform as a model, seen here… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zb3CVmUwy4Y&feature=player_embedded Thanks dude.
Materials Purchased: total of ~$115
- 3x Sheets of ½ inch 4’x8’ plywood from Home Depot - $15 each
- 1x Sheet 3/4” 4’x8’ plywood cut into two 4’x4’ pieces from Home Depot (only used one 4’x4’ piece) - $35
- 1x ¾ inch 6’x4’ stall mat from Tractor Supply Company – 35$
Materials I had on hand:
- Tools (power drill, power sander)
- Wood stain, finish, glue, sponge brushes
- Lots of 1 ¼ inch screws
Directions:
1. Stacked the 3 sheets of half inch plywood together using wood glue and let them set overnight before screwing the 3 sheets together.
2. Lightly sanded the edges of the assembled main platform along with the ¾” 4’x4’ upper piece.
3. Stained and finished the ¾” 4’x4’ upper piece and attached it to the center of my platform with wood glue and screws (also stained the front of the platform for aesthetics).
4. Cut the stall mat into two 2’x4’ sections with a utility knife (this part sucked, would have preferred a longer knife, a saw, or something).
5.Applied Multi-Purpose Liquid Nails to the bottom of the 2’x4’ staff mats and secured them in place on the platform with several more screws.
Voila, platform complete! I wasn’t looking for anything fancy, just a rock solid platform that would hold up over time and save my concrete floors. This platform fits the bill. Now I just need something to clean up those rubber edges a bit.
Here are some pics.
