Agreed, I'll sit on ****, it'll sell as long as the price is reasonable.
We had a garage sale and someone wanted to haggle on the price of a sweater. It was new (unwanted gift) and the asking price was a quarter. Someone wanted to haggle over a quarter. LOL
Yea that's what I will do
I sold 2 100lb hex dumbbells for $50 on Craigslist.
Did I dun goof'd?
That's 25 cents per pound and the market price is 50 cents per pound.... BUT, lots of people are trying to sell hex dumbbells for 50 cents per pound so everyone is looking to buy them for less... AND, there's low demand for heavy dumbbells like 100s.
You might have been able to get more for them... or maybe not. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
200 or 250 when I'm asking 500 is not ballpark... $100 when they are asking 200 is ballpark
Strong logic.
sometimes stuff sells fast and sometimes it doesn't. if you want closer to your asking price don't put OBO, put FIRM. might get a low baller but you might get a offer closer to the 500 you want.

Yes. 100's are hard to find. You might have sold for $125-$150

Thabks... I graduated with a 4.0 :)
dumbbells and plates are common items being sold. I have around 1,000 lbs in plates at home and although I dont really need any more I'll throw low ball offers at some of these ads and if I can get some more plates "below market" then I will, if not - its not something Im worried about losing out on.
OP, I'd say have a thicker skin and don't reply to offers you feel are unreasonably low. They will eventually sell for what your market will bear but if you have a short timeframe you're probably going to be disappointed.

LoL. No one cares.....and so did I.... so do lots of people.
What Daniel was pointing out is that you are ok with a 50% of asking price offer (if you're giving it)....but you feel its a low ball and want to "donkey punch" someone that gives you a 50% of asking price offer on your stuff. Because you don't think one is ballpark.....and you're the one that gets to make that decision....you are mad.
50% is 50% whether you think its ballpark or not.
All that aside..... you can't get beat in a negotiation unless someone brought a gun to it. Sell it for what you're happy selling it for....or keep it in your garage. Its not your job or the market's to meet the other's expectations.......you just have to decide how long you want to keep them. If the market never likes your price, they may become a part of your estate some day.
As far as the lowball offers are concerned, they aren't going anywhere and at least it shows that someone is looking at your stuff. Delete the emails or tell the callers "no thanks" and move on. If the price is fair, someone is going to give you close to what you want at some point or you'll know you need to adjust.
I lowball people, at least I guess I do. I probably wouldn't lowball your ad because it wouldn't really have anything to offer me. You're asking close to what they're worth...so I wouldn't feel likely to get the db's at a price I could resell them. However.....if someone was asking way lower than what they're worth...sure, I'll throw out an offer $25 or $50 less than they're asking.....that's just going to make it easier to sell or put more in my pocket later. It works really well for me and I've got cool stuff to prove it.
Low ballers are not leaving......so follow some of the advice here on how to make the ad and you'll reduce the unwanted buyers. Remember though.....the word "firm" can turn some people off and make them not want to call you at all. Firm implies rigidity and an unwillingness to move......if I can pay $450, but not your $500....I may not even bother.
Its a dance man......just learn to work with your partner.....it is possible to hold to your guns and still be reasonable.....and lowballers usually are just fishing anyway, they seldom hang out to cause trouble.

yup
Whats the big deal man? Its an offer, not an insult. If you take offers as insults then you are stressing yourself out for no reason. Just politely reply saying you would like to get $400. Like others have said in this thread, people are looking for a deal and there is a lot of resellers looking to buy your item and resell it for more. It all depends on how quick you want to move your item.
Last week someone 5 mins from where I work posted 100 lb dumbbells on craigslist for $50 so I bought them and listed them next day for $100. A guy bought them from me for $80 and the next day he had them up for $150 but they've been sitting up for a week now. He's is probably willing to wait while I was just looking for a quick way to get free lunch last week.

its really not that big of a deal i was just sayin'... not stressed at all :)
I also don't like selling. The amount of time spent isn't worth it to me unless I think the return is easily $100 or more when sold under the market price. But I'll flip stuff when I need to buy the whole lot to get something that I want. ...I'll also pass on something that I want if I think I won't be able to make up the cost after selling the extras or after hauling it to Play It Again Sports. I've been pretty selective. I only have a few things listed presently and I don't really care if they sell or not. ...it's kind of sad but the Weider crap sold like hot cakes but Ivankos are sitting there at only a couple cents more per pound. What is in demand isn't necessarily quality.

I've sold several items to my local PIAS store for far less than I would've made on CL, just so I wouldn't have to deal with the typical Craigslist BS.
So I have a set of hex dumbbells for sale on Craigslist from 5 lbs up to 65 lbs in 5 lb increments. That's 860 lbs(don't have 25 lbers) and I have $500 OBO... I know that's a little high but expect to let it go for $400 which is less than .50 a lb... I've had 3 dumbasses offer me $200 and one offer me $225... I mean really???? I try to be nice but it flies all over me!!! I'm all about getting a good deal but c'mon man!! End rant.....
400 isn't bad. I only need 6 pairs to finish my 10-75 set but have debated buying a full rack setup like you mention and then reselling DBs I don't need.

i would take $400 in a heartbeat
Sold for $450!!! All the doubters... Suck it!!!!! 😝
Yeah I hate these cheap ****s. They always make up stories how they need the thing you're selling but can't afford the price. I'm not interested in hearing how crappy their life is.
Even when I put "NO OFFERS" in the title or description these idiots still try it, as if they never even bothered to read the description.
I also get idiots who call me and ask about the item, even though everything is in the advert. They ask for the price for the lot (in the advert) as if they think I'll forget the price I put it up for and let them have it for less.
It sometimes gets frustrating reading like 3-4 messages of these idiots a day. Phone conversations are the worst. They try justifying why your item is worth like 50% less than what you put up on the web.
The other day I was trying to push my 25 and 50kg plates for 1 and 1.10 £ respectively. The guy calls me, asks for the fuking price even though it was on the listing - then when I told him that the price is in the listing he starts saying "oh mate your price is way too expensive, these plates are worth like £0.60 and all that crap.
I ended up saying **** off and dropping the call coz the guy wouldn't just back off.
These people are like scavengers.
PS: yeah I know its a bit of a rant.
Whats the big deal man? Its an offer, not an insult.
If I give you a full description, good pictures, and tell you the going rate for the weights I am selling and you offer scrap yard prices, it's an insult and I will tell you so.
