Charles always brings the tunes... and the Ladies and the cats. Charles brings it for all occasions.

That's a good price Paul. I recall back then on Friday nights at the base bar we could get 8 beer tickets for 2 bucks... We would drink those before we hit the local bars to keep the cost down a bit lol
It was also around the time that we got our first home computer. I had been using them at work for quite some time, but finally broke down and bought one for home (a Tandy 1000)

That wasn't cheap, in 1985 that was a few bucks...
$1,000 in 1985 is worth $2,850.80 today
^^^^^^^^
That's according to an inflation calculator..

Back in the day when I was young I’m not a kid anymore but some days I sit and wish I was a kid again.
My 1985....
Tina Turner Private dancer tour in Gothenburg - my first concert. I was 11 and bitches there seemed too big tbh.
Dominated the local 11 yr old's basketball league and made all star (top 5 players) for the region. Lebron had nothing on me. He might have been 1 yr old at the time, but still.
Still listening to Depeche Mode's Some Great Reward, and Alphaville's Forever Young from the year before, but also discovering house music, mainly from the U.K. Possible gateway to hip hop I went to in 87 with Rhyme Pays.
Keeping my Commodore 64 games, but also discovering super mario.
Winning the dance competion they got almost every time at the kid's weekly disco, Chad pussy magnet dancing the night away in neon yellow 80's pants and extra high knee movement.
The local stamp collector's club with mostly old dudes is no longer cool enough for me. Only made bronze level at their exhibition with my Olympics collection, so said funk that.
Enjoyed Back to the Future, The Goonies, and Rocky IV. Didn't know about Weird Science, and was probably too young to care about The Breakfast Club.
Gorbachev becomes Soviet leader, but I was too young to notice or care. Paid some attention to Lakers Vs Celtics however as they kept tapes of the games in the basketball club house.

That 'Cuda would have been a good investment. Sells for 400-800k today, depending on options and condition.

Wow....
The first one I recall seeing was in 72, our high school principle bought one new.. I grew up in a small rural community, so it was a big deal. lol
Hey DS, I hear ya… In spite of my age I am still a kid. Sometimes the old back reminds me that I am not lol.. I hope that I never grow up. :D
That is a great Post Steffo, Very descriptive and made me chuckle . It sounds like you had a great 80’s.
I am sure that some of us will remember these babies….

I wanted to get a computer after watching the movie WarGames. I couldn't afford a Commodore 64, so I ended up with a Commodore Vic 20. It didn't even have a floppy disk drive; I had to store everything on a cassette using a tape drive. I remember eagerly connecting it to my TV and rubbing my hands together with glee at all the mischief I was going to create. Needless to say, my expectations vs reality were light years apart:
(me at the computer prompt)

Me: WTF is this bullsh!t?!

One of my all-time favorite cool cars growing up. I remember when I was in high school and seeing a 'Cuda sitting in front of a house - badass. Never forgot it.

I got one of these bad boys for Christmas 1980...maybe?
I loved that game, but I rarely (if ever) beat the lil bastard.

It wasn't just a sign for us to hit the fart sack, it actually had a purpose. It was used for calibration...

I remember seeing Muppets Take Manhattan in theater when it first came out.
Couldn't they make a muppets rambo movie? I can see animal getting the lead role.

Just reading the original post...
Wow, back when the average house was only 4x the average income. Happy days!
I rented for years, just unable to afford to buy... so didn't buy until 2005 and still there now. When bought it was 6x average income, same place now is maybe 10x average income.
4x is a distant dream

My father bought a house for 14k when I was in grade school. That house is worth over 500k today.

Wonder if some people misspell that on their resume and get a much better job than expected?

Saw Boston around 87 or 88. Listened to the 3rd stage album on the way to the show. They played the album in its entirety and it sounded exactly like the tape. WTF did we buy tickets for if they were just going to give us a studio performance?

I became obsessed with this, the missus was away on a course when I got it and committed myself to mastering it. It took me over a month but I was able to regularly solve it in just over a minute.
Not as fast as some of the folks that did it but it still won me a lot of beer at the bar. :D:D
My ding a ling rarely when limp back then. Much like a Rubix cube the more I played with it, the harder it got.
