Frank Zane
Here's his 1980's olympia... fricken awesome look, and really great posing. I like how he builds it up slowly then executes the pose quickly at the last second.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=XQRgCmv9BnE
So, do you think Zane used steroids? To me, he doesn't look that "massive", like his body could be achieved by just lots of hard work. This is defently the kind of look i'm shooting for.
-
frank zane is the only bodybuilder around that time who won the O and didnt use steroids, with only 18 inch arms kind shows he didnt, espically when you think he's the same size as stallone
-

haha, and for that reason Frank Zane was also known as "the chemist"
-
zane used. just like arnold hed be much smaller in the off season then bulk up and cut fat at the same time. only one way to do that at his stage of developement.
-

how the **** do you know he didnt use steroids
if you arent sure or dont have evidence to support stupid claims like that then stfu
-
I would also like to know why the original poster, and many other (misinformed) people, think Zane did not use steroids???
Most everyone in pro sports post-1956 used steroids at some point. Did Zane lie at some point and claim to be natural? I have never heard or read anything along those lines. During his era steroids where not even a big deal--the media only recently noticed that they may be able to boost ratings by creating an anti-steroid hype/band wagon.
Please let me know if he claimed to be natural; I really look up to the guy and that would change things if he lies about unimportant issues.
Very nice video =) I wonder what the other bodybuilders were saying/thinking when they seen it live. To me its unlike anything else of that era, and has influenced everything else ever since.

Stupid post.
1. I've seen hardcore AAS users with 15-16 inch arms, some are even vets on the AAS forum here.
2. Stallone DID use lol.
AAS doesn't equal muscle size. Many people use AAS to no end and don't succeed.
Anyway, I hate Frank Zane's physique and still cannot get why everyone likes it.
-
haha, and for that reason Frank Zane was also known as "the chemist"
was that Frank Zanes nickname? i knew someone was the chemist besides jose consaco.
Neways, Frank Zane did indeed use steriods, dont be ignorant. Frank Zane, like him or not, was special in his time whether he used steriods makes no differeance.
I would also like to know why the original poster, and many other (misinformed) people, think Zane did not use steroids???
I was simply asking a question cock.
i never said one way or another that he did or did not use steroids, i'm not misinformed.

Wow lol over react much??? I was also simply asking a question and you react like a fool. Never did I say you are misinformed, hence the () around the word. If English is not your first language then I understand. If language is not the problem, then you have a problem you should address. You may be a very negative person, or maybe you are wrong often and it makes you feal bad about yourself so you strike out in a defensive manner when you feel your are misinformed. I even repped you for showing the good video and did not insult you in any way. A misinformed person is simply someone whom is ignorant; its not the person's fault and you do not have to feel bad about your lack of knowledge. No one in this world is perfect, and there is no one that knows everything. Don't get so embarassed if you happen to lack some knowledge, it is not a big deal. I just asked, the other guy above me may have flamed you, but I truely just wondered where the many misinformed people got their info about Zane. You really over react and bro you need to relax. Judging by your comment I know there will be many times throughout life you may lack information, and its no biggy--just be nice and people will be happy to help you learn.
Stupid post.

Really, you hate it? What is wrong with it? He is in very good condition in that video, and perfect proportions. You have every right to like or dislike whatever you want, but man Zane is in great shape there. If you are into bodybuilding (and i understand many are not and find us to look wierd) I just wonder what you dislike about him?

I’m no expert in these matters but to my eyes he looks natural and pleasing to the eye. Much better than the rather bloated look often seen in today’s pros.

I agree he looks alot better than today's top guys. Its a very timeless look; much like some works of art. I would go so far as to say even non-bodybuilders would think he looks good.

i've seen bigger underwear models. FRANK ZANE IS TINY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why does everyone like this guy??? he is sooooo much smaller than everyone else, he sticks out like dogs balls when looking through the past O winners. So u only need 18" arms to win an O, i have 18's i'm a natural and have been training for a year and a half!!!
Its body BUILDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s very easy to say such things sitting at your PC, but if you were transported back in time to stand next to him I think you might not seem so impressive.
-
Woah, guys. Hostility? Cry???
Frank Zane's the **** and I believe that he likely used steroids. I'd have a hard time believing that in all his years he hadn't injected ****. Still one of the most aesthetically pleasing bodies in BB'ing, especially for his time.
I'd kill to have a body like him.

I doubt you have a physique that rivals Zane's.
-
God...
You're the one who lacks a basic grasp over the english language... Even when i take the word misinformed out of your statement. It still CLEARLY says that I (the original poster) believe that Frank Zane did not use steroids. Which i did NOT say. I hate it when people put words in my mouth.
I would also like to know why the original poster, and many other people, think Zane did not use steroids???
Now, i'm not going to continue this retarded internet debate anymore because it is a waste of time. Maybe i over reacted but you are still in the wrong with what you said initially. Considering you wrote that massive paragraph it would seem you have a tendancy to over react too.

post up your pics. i bet you're a fat ass. No wonder this guy is in the red.

You have to remember that at that Olympia he was a lot smaller than the years prior due to injury. Please look at the picture attached for a full blown Zane.
Also, he was known as 'The Chemist' due to his knowledge of Nutrition(vitamins, minerals, etc..) A big advocat of B Vitamins, which he claims in high dosages have a steriodiol effect.
I think he probably used a lot more in his yonger days with Arnold and the boys.

1) He looks HUMAN
2) He looks HEALTHY
3) I doubt you've built your body to that level. No natural human without resistance training can achieve this look and so it IS body building.
-
...but where are his calves?
also he does look a lot like stallone(lighting+haircut) haha.

yeah great points there, u really got me.......
i didn't know the judging criteria was based on how healthy they looked??? well u learn something everyday, nice one mate.
by natural i mean no roids. i said i have been training for a year and a half.
My point is that if i can get in the same ball park, sizewise, without being on juice (i admitt i look no way near as good as zane) how can he be given a Mr O??? its not about how nice ypur lines are or how cut u are, at the end of the day it is who is the biggest and most muscular. conditioning and cutting are to make the muscles look bigger, create an illusion, after all the goal is to look as big as possible

theres already been this type of question before, and the prove to show for this. so i sujest you go and reasearch, just like i did to find it out

Lmao lmao lmao lmao lmao lmao lmao lmao
Reminds me when I started a Zane thread a while back and someone came along and said many users who posts on these boards have a physique closer if not better than Zane (Derek Charlbois). HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
You gotta laugh at some of the comments that come out on the forums

Let's get down to a few decent points that have been mentioned and some that haven't.
- He didn't really lift as heavy as the other bodybuilders at the time. Apparently he had problems with his lower back??
- Not sure about the high dosages of vitamin..But I certainly read an article when he pretty much believes in high dosages of amino acids. He also says in the article that steroids are not the way foreward.
- Yes as bigpop said he was nicknamed the chemist due to his knowledge of chemisty/chemicals etc..not realted to steroids. He was a teacher.
- He was an absolute master of posing - You HAVE to give him that. Brothers..practice makes perfect..
- He believed in posing to songs that built up..ideally progressive rock (e.g. Pink Floyd) I think he may even have brought his own music out now.
- People mock that Olympia win in 1980's..however tell me whyh thousands of people where in awe?
- As for his juicing who knows..? It would APPEAR as though he was probably not as big juicers as "the others" but who knows..and Zane isn't probably going to speak much about it either.
- He was a classic ECTO-MESO - Despite some fool on the teen board the other day saying he was pure MESO....
- He always stayed pretty lean and didn't necessairly do the HYOOOOOOOOOOOOGE bulk's that others were at the time. When he gained it was obviously lean..and I like to call it "ZANE MASS" I don't think he went much over 200lbs..and always pretty much came in lighter than the others (approx 175) HOWEVER visually it looked good and he didn't necessarily NEED to be hyyyyyyyyyyooooogeeee - Bare in mind though his weight now probably wouldn't allow him to qualify for an Olympia! (But that's cause Weider is a complete tool)
- He beat Arnold because he was more CONDITIONED on the day..whereas Arnold went more for mass.
- Along with a few others, he was one of the most aesthitcally pleasing bodybuilders i've ever seen (IN MY OPINION) however if you think that RONiINniiehahHAeya cOLEMaN "LIGHtEEIGHt baBBBiyyyyy" is aesthetically pleasing with his legs that look like someone got a bike pump and pumped it up till there about to explode then that's your opinion
At the end of the day..
Zane>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>God
(Perhaps an exagerration :D:p)
P.S. Who cares what size his BICCCCCCCCCCCCCEPPPPPPTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSS were..it's what they look like on stage..not what the friggin' measure.

I realy thought I was the only one to notice that he was just ridiculously small for what was supposed to be the "greatest bodybuilder alive". There are plenty of amateurs out there bigger than him (and hell even in his time there were guys MUCH bigger than him) and don't pull the conditioning bull**** because once you cut off the black and white pictures he's ripped, but nothing to WOW about.
-
I’m no expert in these matters but to my eyes he looks natural and pleasing to the eye. Much better than the rather bloated look often seen in today’s pros.
The fact that you're saying "he looks natural" kinda shows that you haven't been bitten by the "get big" bug. Untill you have you're not judging people by bodybuilding standards, but by model standards.
IMHO in order to be a professional BODYBUILDER you have to look big with a shirt on.
-
Zane used steroids, even at his "small" level to attain that type of conditioning and size without steroids would be difficult for someone of his frame.
Its also pretty well known in the bbing comm that Zane used T3 and many say he blew out his thyroid and had to use it even today. If he used T3, he most certainly used aas.
-
IMHO in order to be a professional BODYBUILDER you have to look big with a shirt on.
Hey Uriel..totally appreciate what you say..If you hate Frank Zane's physique that's all personal opinion. Like I said I think he has on of the greatest physique's around; but that's cause i'm not into all this Ronnie stuff.
But anyways saying he's ridiculously small is probably too extreme...You also have to consider that this is 1980's, knowledge since then has improved even further.
You can be sure that if you walked past Zane in the street back in the day you could be
Here's some great Zane pics + 1 with a shirt on
P.S. Wasn't flaming you..everyone has their own opinion and should be entitled to one..without causing arguements/flame war :)
