Actually I've hurt my back before doing deadlifts - not seriously though. But it still makes me nervous when going for a PR, so I go up in small increments - 10 or 20 lbs at a time. Next attempt will be 465-475 depending on how I'm feeling that day :)

I'm so used to mixed grip that I'm more comfortable (and feel stronger) pulling mixed, even with the versa gripps on. Probably something in my setup that leads to this, but I haven't bothered to figure it out :)

* I had some stuff come up at work on Thursday that just pissed me off the whole day. Instead of going for speed squats per Smolov, I wanted to hit a few heavy reps instead to get my aggression out. Stopped at 2 reps on 395 because I wasn't trying to max out on reps.

* I've decided to skip the second week of the Smolov switching cycle and go right into the intense cycle starting on Sunday. I'll be using 435 as my training max - 10 lbs off my 1RM set last week.

* The intense cycle is certainly ... intense :) Sunday's workout looks like this:

Yeah, I switched over to doing Texas Method for my bench programming. Thought it was a good pairing with Smolov for squats.
