Is it possible to eat too much protein on a keto diet - enough to kick you out of ketosis and enough to prevent glycogen depletion ?
good question.. i would be interested in finding out the answer myself..
bump
Yep, it's more than 'possible'. 1g/lb-lbm is probably enough.
Yes to much protein will kick you out of ketosis.
I don't work my protein off my LBM, reason being too many people think they have more muscle mass than they actually do. Add that to the fact that many people cant use calipers accurately enough to get a reliable BF reading
it can happen but it really shouldnt be too worried about.
there are keto diets which are 60% protein and 30% fat which is 1.5g/lbm and even then they say less than 10% will be converted to glucose, and its really still ok.
so if you go over your 1g/lbm by a little it wont suddenly kick you out. the 30% is a good guideline but some more wont hurt.
If you live on whey, chicken breast and egg white, yes, absolutely. If you are eating real food, it's not such a big problem. 65% fat works well for getting into ketosis and feeling full, but it's not set in stone.

Wondering about muscle glycogen as well. I hear to supersaturate the muscles during a refeed you have to be pretty much depleted before you start the refeed. Then the body overcompenstations and jams a lot of glycogen into the muscles than it would normally do. If during the week you eat too much protein is it possible the muscles will have too much glycogen that a "regular" depletion workout will not be able to drain them ? You would have to workout much longer to make sure they really do get emptied.

How is chicken breast and eggs not real food?

she meant food that aren't too lean.
"egg whites" not "eggs"; one with no fats and the other with.

I think you are splitting hairs here. Just eat real food, the stuff that comes from animals and farms, and do the workouts, and don't worry too much about this.
As for your depletion workout, you'll know when you are depleted, even if it takes an extra set or two per muscle group.

I was doing some research and read something which says the liver can convert protein to glucose at the rate of about 5g per hour. So 24 hours would be 5*24= 120g per day. So I guess if you ate 120 g of protein per day and it all went to glucose ( unlikely especially if you are doing weights ) .. this could probably kick someone out of ketosis.
The above figure of 120g does sound a little strange to me.. If it is a true upper limit then there must be some other way that the body gets energy from protein as 120g * 4 cal = 480 cals which does is not enough to live on. An all protein diet ( 0 carbs, 0 g ) then would not be enough to survive on alone since the body would need more than 480 cals per day to live. How else ( besides liver converting it to glucose ) is the body using the energy from protein ?

In response to this the body can also convert glucose to fatty acids which get stored in adipose tissue. I missed this so yeah you can pretty much live off of protein only if you wish, but would miss essential fatty acids but you only need a few grams of those per day.

NO.
NO.
Agreed.
I also will add that Dave Palumbos diet includes more carbs and alot more protein than a traditional keto diet....but he considers it a KETO diet.
I also read a huge report that amino acids replenish glycogen in muscles....I think it was 80% of glycogen stores come from amino acids.
The only thing I can say for sure is that Im on the AD....under 30 carbs every day mon-sat....and I still get pumps on fri and sat of the week! I mean total arm splitting pumps....so I can only state what I experience as fact. Maybe its due to the bcaas I drink during my workout...I drink 4 scoops of Xtend in a half gallon jug. Im not sure...but I stay in ketosis.....I lose fat...and I still get a pump.
My diet stays around 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbs....but on my higher calories days thats 310 grams of protein..Ive had zero issues.
Too much protein will give you kidney stones.
people who get kidney stones are usually predisposed to getting kidney stones.
ive never heard that before but i dont really know anything about them cause ive never even known anyone whos had them.
but i think youd had to eat way way way too much, and probably add in some other factors, to get one. if youve had one before, it might be a risk. if not, i doubt it.
