Carbs before bed are a bad idea not fats,The GH is released after 30-45 minutes from ur sleep,if the glucose levels in blood are high, this will minimize the release of GH which is responsible for building muscles and losing fat.
Cottage cheese is perfect as it contains caesin protein which is slowly absorbed and thus supply ur body with amines during ur fast, and fats slow the digestion too.
why would it be a bad idea? does eating fat make you fat?
as long as it fits in your macros eating CCheese and PB is great before bed. Fat is necessary and doesn't make you fat. Excess calories makes you fat, and often one could more attribute to putting on fat from excess carbs rather than excess fat.
If you have the 300-400 calories in your diet throw it in there, the fat will slow your digestion down allowing your body to breakdown the nutrients slowly feeding your bod through the night, and the cottage cheese is casein which also digests slowly providing protein for up to 8 hours.
Food before bed doesn't make you fat. Carbs before bed is not a "bad idea" either. It is pointless; youd be better off consuming your carbs in the AM and around your workout when you need them most, but its not a "bad idea" to consume carbs before bed.
honestly as long as your busting your ass in the gym, you'll be burning so many calories that it's pretty silly to worry about overeating healthy foods like natty pb. i eat 3-4 tbsp before bed.

As always Alan sais it best:
there's absolutely nothing wrong with carbs before bed. it's a myth that they keep you awake, and it's a mythical oversimplification that they turn to fat. what most people don't know is that even tiny folks burn 400-500 calories during the sleep cycle, and large folks burn 700-1000 calories --- while sleeping. BMR does not suddenly shut off just because you fall asleep. your nervous, circulatory, endocrine, exocrine, & respiratory systems to name a few, continue to be active. my opinion is that folks tend to miss the big picture by fixating on details taken out of context & relevance -- hence the no carbs before bed myth. hope that helps.
Ok two questions, dont ur metabolism and insulin sensitivity decrease by night?
Doesnt GH release decrease with higher glucose levels?
OK,tomorrow I'll check if DaveP or TheBrotherHood can answer my 2 questions, thx in advance and goodnight.
Funny that you ask that because it was in that alan quote...I just cropped it out because I didnt think it was relevant to the question...
don't stress over inhibiting GH with insulin. your body has ways to get around that. a slight tangent here, supernormal levels of GH were seen 6hrs after a spike in insulin caused by a carb/protein solution.
I'll tell u a medical note:
Growth Hormone suppression Test AKA Glucose Loading Test
This is a test done to examine people with excessive GH (acromegaly for adults and gigantism in children),they take two blood samples, one before loading glucose and one after loading glucose,
Normally, a glucose load suppresses GH. In a patient with excessive GH, failure of suppression indicates anterior pituitary dysfunction and confirms a diagnosis of acromegaly and gigantism.
these are the type of people whose GH doesnt decrease with glucose.

As in the AA quote, it is a non-issue. The insulin response is a non-issue as well. Insulin is a non issue to overall sustained fat loss or storage. It can increase fat stored around a meal, but overall fat loss/gain will be determined by plain old thermodynamics.
how do you guys eat your PB at night? Do you just lick it off the spoon or put it on some whole grain bread. I usually put it on whole grain bread but im not sure if I should do that at night. If I just ate it off the spoon Id never fill up and eat half the jar lol. What do you guys do?

Spoon. Measure it out, then close the jar and put it away. Then eat.
Done any other way and you will be tempted to double dip. :)
is it okay to put it in a protein shake before bed if im trying to lose weight?
How did you even manage to find this thread.
is it okay to put it in a protein shake before bed if im trying to lose weight?
Digging in the graveyard?
To answer your question, yes it's ok to put it in your protein shake before bed. As long as you have room for it in your weight loss goals (ie: works within your caloric intake). And even if you're over your daily caloric allowance by a table spoon or two wouldn't hurt. It usually helps me curb those sweet tooth cravings which I rather take from all natty pb than say crumb cakes and donuts.
