so you found the search button?
its like loading with creatine, or anything. You take in huge amounts of carbs, people do it when bulking, hard gainers do it alot, lots of energy and strength when lifting.
read the keto forums.
Holy crap guys..... Its when someone consumes alot of carbohydrates usually after a state of glycogen depletion..(Ie almost or even into kitoses) when you carb deplete your glycogen stores are at nil and your muscles turn into sponges so when you load up on low glycemic(low glycemic carbs because sugars and high glycemic carbs will cause you to retain alot of water around the muscles) then your muscles have a more full look along with the skin being tighter... but this is not exclusively done for contests it can also be a way to shock your body into weight loss especialy when you progress slowes during long bouts of dieting....
I've done it before running a half-marathon, and it really helped get me through. Basically the entire day before I was constantly consuming all the carbs I could get my hands on, and for dinner I had a massive plate of ww spaghetti. I can't even imagine how many cals were in everything. But the next day I had so much energy it was ridiculous, I hit a second wind at 4 miles and a runners high at 7 that made the rest of it pretty much effortless.
the old tradition was a 4 day carb depletion followed by a 3 day load not latering kcals but changing your macro percentages. Nowadays people skip the depletion cos it messes with your training and jsut increase carb percentage a couple of days before along race to make sure glycogen is fully loaded. as an above post says glycogen resynthesis is greatest in depleated muscles i.e. after training
Wow, strong bump from a question asked in 2005. I'm sure at this point with Chickentuna being in the condition she is in she has familiarized herself with carb loading.
lol ... four people have jumped on here since 2005 ..and there all from yesterday! lol this is great..
weird
hmmm
Carbo loading if done wrong can bloat the crap out of u and make u feel like crap
finally chickentuna can sleep easy!
:)

probably best only for endurance athletes..marathoners/ironmen, etc... unless you are doing crazy marathon workouts I am not sure it is a good idea, as you will not burn the carbs, they'll be stored as glycogen, which needs something like 2 grams of water to support 1 gram of glycogen... THAT MEANS bloat and water weight. I am recently trying to focus on keeping my macronutient ratios around 40% protein, 40% carbs and 20% fat... so far I have enaough energy to get through it and I also eat mostly healthy fatty acids to make up the 20% part of it. I believe this will benefit most people trying to gain lean muscle and cut fat.

Amen....!!!!;-)
strong bump
this is the mother of all bumps
Glycogen loading is key, yet also a quick way to net bodyfat if you don't know what you're doing.
Yeah, she def figured it out. lol

You hit a second wind at 4 miles? I'm guessing you ran the race in terrible shape because you don't even deplete your stores at this time. I was running about 15 miles a day until I fractured my tibia last month, and carb loading is completely unnecessary for runs under 20 miles. You just have to eat normal. But since it "helped" you, I guess a placebo effect is present when you eat some spaghetti.
some srsly strong bumping goin on
*looks at OP DP*
