Ugh! You had one heck of a time last week! Sounds like you both needed an deserved some time to rest and relax (as much as small children allow of course haha!!)
May this week be much better for you!!
Damn that does sound like an awful week, sorry to hear it. Loving all this cows in heat farm talk lol, this was something they certainly never covered in Little House on the Prarie. :p Solid workout, interested to see a squat vid if you do one.
Hopefully no more cow sex til May! May try for a vid on Fri. Should have done it yesterday cause I had the kids with me cause of Lee Jackson Day.
That sucks for your weekend. Hope this week goes better for you.
In for vids :D
Thanks DM. It is going better already! We loaded 5 pigs out of here this am!!
Hey Geek! P is pertty funny.
Srs dead # last week.
Glad you got a roller! Worth every penny.
Thanks BSG.
Love the roller. Hubs keeps stealing it though!
sorry about your head :o
if you are working on your squat form i would advice using a box
something like a milk crate
Thanks RB. I am trying to remember what size boxes they have there.
I hope your head feels okay. Do cows bellow all night long when they're in heat - like a cat? That would be weird to listen to while trying to sleep.
Head is still sore but better. They can bellow all night long. Weaning is worse than heat. Unless people drive by and see like 6 of your cows riding each other. That is kind of emabrassing.
Wow, sorry you had such a rough week! Sounds like you could have used the little break from the gym though :)
Some weeks are just like that. I am trying as I get older to not let the bad days carry over. Break felt good. Can't wait to hit it tomorrow!!
Ugh! You had one heck of a time last week! Sounds like you both needed an deserved some time to rest and relax (as much as small children allow of course haha!!)

Thanks MM. It is crazy how kids do seem to know the morning you want to sleep in and ruin them. But mine are getting older so they normally aren't as bad. They get up early on weekends and don't want to get up on school days!
I may bring my phone tomorrow and see if I can figure out how to set up to take a vid of deads and then Fri for squats. Best camera position for deads and squats? Thoughts? Where do you put the camera? On the floor. On a bench? Workout in a public gym. Any ideas?
-
I'd say just set it up where ever you can! I haven't gone to a gym alone and taken videos by myself before. hahaha! I bet I could actually count the number of times I've been to one, actually! :D
Excited for vids! :)
-
Usually a side angle is best so that you can see body positioning. Depends on the set up at your gym - can you move a bench over or just set on floor.
Excited for vids too!
-
Totally just use a bench for vids and bert stare anyone who bert stares you;)

Bert stare!
Deads and Vids
Alright. So I do have vids. I realized when I got to the gym that they only have 6 10# plates and all 6 were in use. And there were not enough 5’s to make 40, so I decided to try 185, which was a 10# jump from last Wed. Let us just say, I blew my wad. Pardon the saying. But all the creatine in the world was not going to let 5x5x185 happen. So I have vids of the first 4 sets. They were too heavy. My back rounds a little and my butt isn’t low enough. I do’t like doing them in the spot I had to today. I like doing them with a all in front and a mirror on the side so I can check my back and bum location before I start. So, yes they are vids, but not great. Any input is welcome. Yes I am a dork.

Hahaha! Like the humor! :D
Deads looked pretty good! Excellent effort put in! :D
-
yeah, wanted to say definitely not stuck! you're flying up in what you can pull.
-
form looked good on the deads!
good job there
-
Yeah I vote my recent deads look way worse than yours lol. That was a compliment. Somehow I swear!
185 is nice!

Hey Lori, thanks. Every time i see their logo it just cracks me up.
yeah, wanted to say definitely not stuck! you're flying up in what you can pull.
See I don't know Geek. I was thinking as I was doing the second set of 185, this is farking heavy. I don't know if i could pull 190. I mean I want to get to 225, but I am not sure how. Do I go back down to 175 and do x5, then re try 180, then 185, then go til I get stuck and come back down? I have lifted for a couple yrs but I have never really tried to lift heavy til recently and I am just not sure how to get there.

Thank you RB. Coming from you that is high praise!

Thanks P. I remember watching some of you DL vids from last fall and thinking dang she is strong. So thank you.
-
on jan 11th, you were hurrah'ing about 170 and now you're working on 185. is that 11 days? 11 days to go up 15 pounds. and you think you're stuck.
*shakes head*
oh jjeane. you so silly.
edit: the percentage on that is almost 8%. By strength building standards that's huge.
-
Okay Geek you have a point. I suppose next time I should try 180. I think the 10# jump was a mind fuk.
-
Nice job on the DL JJ! Tiny bit of back rounding but that was max effort for you for that amount of reps so it's to be expected. Try to keep the shoulders back and push through your heels. I notice you're wearing running shoes, helped me a ton w/ form when I stopped doing that and started DLing in socks, the shoe padding can screw you up sometimes. Excellent work being put in though, was obvious in the vids you are working your ass off!

Agreed, ease into it, that is a huge jump for any lift. :)

Thank you Hobbes. I agree on the back rounding. May try the no shoes, I notice a lot of you guys DL with no shoes, but was not sure why.
It was a huge jump and I would not have done it had 4 10# plates been available. Stubborn me. I should have waited. My goal for the day was 5x5x180 and if I got 3 out of 5 I was going to be happy. I think I will go back to 5x5x175 next time and try again.
-
Nice job on the deads.
I tell all my friends, flat shoes are easier to dead lift and squat in. Chuck Taylors, or any cheap knockoff will do.
And good looking swimmer ;)
-
So on the Chucks, is that for DL only or lifting in general?
-
So on the Chucks, is that for DL only or lifting in general?
people like them for squats too
i usually use runners so i either squat in them, or take them off
-
Man some of this stuff gets so complicated - I just want to wear a basic pair of shoes to work out in. LOL
Great work I agree with Geek - relax lady your doing awesome!

Thanks guys. i think sometimes you just get caught up and have to step back and see how far you have come!
Happy Friday!!!!
I have vids of squats. The 45’s I think look good. The 65’s are okay and the 95’s are not low enough. Need to do some research on what would be the best way to go about building on my squats. Any suggestions on form? Or building on squats is much appreciated!
My calves were sore yesterday which I thought was weird. No quite sure why?
Pull ups, I am up to 4!! I am happy about this. Really want to make it to 5!!
Huh, what else. Oh yes. U bought some Chuck’s. I wore Chuck’s in High School. In fact I have plaid high top Chuck’s. They were cool. I have no fashion sense. I literally wear the same thing all the time. I have like 4 or 5 of the same jeans, shirts, etc. So anyway. But I really liked lifting in them. I have been having some inner leg/groin pain while squatting and I don’t if it it was th shoes, or maybe I finally found the right foot angle, but no pain today.

I am ready for a rest this weekend. Have to go to Houston on Monday to get the w-2/1099’s. Will have to se how to get a workout in on Monday.
-
Nice workout! I'm not a very good at squat critiquing- I don't do those! :p Hahaha! Only person on here that doesn't do regular squats! :D But that's ok, I hate them!
Have a good weekend! :)
-
Remember Lori you do those azz to grazz lumberjacks. I am not sure if I squatted down that low, just BW if I could get back up!
-
i think you have great form on those squats. they are a little high. Some were at parallel and others were above. i dont know if you just need to push yourself in the hole at bodyweight to see what it feels like to go low (you could video yourself, so first you feel it, and then you see it) until you get to just below parallel. I still do that stretch that rippetoe talks about before my squat sessions. lemme see if i can find a pic.

go as deep as you can and then position your arms like that and then push your elbows out so you are stretching those inner muscles. it always helps me to do this so i can get a feel for going deep. my body is kinda dumb and needs a daily reminder. lol
nice workout, too! i hope the trip to houston isnt too annoying. also, that gym looks amazeballs.
-
Good pics Geek. I will have to try that. I think depth has a lot to do with flexibilty of the joints.
Have a great weekend and I hope monday goes as planned.
-
Geek THANK YOU!! I totally forgot about that stretch. I was totally discombobulated by the time I got to the gym today. I will make a note in my notebook to do that stretch next squat day.
Trip to Houston will be fine. Just long. Maybe I will go lift Sunday and then I won't feel bad!
DM, I agree that flexibility has a lot to do with it. My left hip is way tighter than my right and I have to really think about keeping level and not letting one side dip more than the other.

Let’s just call this a reload workout. Well the next 2 workouts I do this week will be. I have been having chore issues the last 4 mornings. My milk pump has been acting funny, very frustrating. But I think Hubs fixed it. So my frustration level in the am has been pretty high. Plus I did 4 full body workouts in 7 days. So I am thinking the other 2 workouts I do this week will be lighter. I am going to cut put the arm tri set for the next 2 as well. My mind was just not in it this morning. i just didn’t feel like I could do it. So I think a slight break will be good.
I did spend some time today working on getting to parallel on BW squats and doing the squat stretch. My inner thigh and hip muscles are very tight. Plus I cheat when I sit down all the time. I am going to have to retrain my hips to sit right.

watched all 3 squat vids
i think it went well
i would stretch and foam roll before hand (for inner leg)
then do some BW squats to a box moving to reg squats with the same box
only critique i can give atm is to slow down a tad on the descent
-
Thank you for your input RB? Need to bring my milk crate. Out of curiosity why do you recommend box squats? Also do you fully sit or just touch your bum on the box.
Slow down is one thing I am working on, as well as mind muscle connection. But I think the 2 go hand in hand.
-
I do that stretch Geek posted when I'm resting between sets at the gym for anything, leg day, back day, chest day, etc. It becomes very easy to do and sit in that position for longer periods if you do it all the time. People will bert stare though and wonder if you're either meditating or hurt lulz. Nice job on the squats JJ, looked pretty good IMO!
