unless your arms are bigger than my legs their is no way you can curl a 120 pound dumbell.
Some people can do 100's it is possible to use 120's. Also with bigger dumbells people tend to cheat a bit.

excuse me
just to clarify
1.) I am not an idiot
2.) 120 lb db's ARE the heaviest db's at my gym
and
3.) I DO curl the 120's
if you know someone that lives in Rock Hill they can come to my gym and watch me do it
provided they are willing to spot me on bench press so I can do some forced reps : o )
Hell, you ought to be mighty proud, boy. Cause you're curling bigger dumbells than Ronnie Coleman, who has shredded 23" arms at a bodyweight of 270 lbs. Sheeeesh!
LoL I was joking about curling a two-handed 190 earlier...that itself is quite the weight. So you should be able to two-handed curl 240!? That's insane...drop us some pics! Really, upload some pics.
my max on barbell curls is 145lbs, i can dumbell curl 70's dumbells x 4
I guarentee that no one on this board can curl 100 pound dumbells strict. I dont know anyon on this boar but I would put all of the money I have to bet on it
hi
what exactly are concentration curls anyone? ive been wondering for a while

I don't think it's possible to do it strict for anyone, unless you weigh 400lbs. or else it will take you off balance anyway...

I'm sure you have seen people do these. They are when you use a dumbell and put your elbow on your knee and curl. Check here for a better explanation:

Hope that helps :-)

I'm serious, I would love to see some pics of those guns and I'm sure I'm not the only one here. So get some pics and post 'em.
I can curl a 20lb dumbbell 35 reps and i can curl a 55lb DB for 2 reps.
Ill do a 135lb barbell curl for 6 reps on my last set.
I wont try to 1rep max, thats asking for injury.
And ill believe a 120lb dumbell curl when i see it, there are two pretty huge bodybuilders and several powerlifters (as well as a 350pound lineman for the University of Michigan) at my golds and they dont even try that much.
I just got a mental picture of what a 120lbs db looks like.
It is uncomfortable to use for a flat bench press
I don't really see how a curl would work.
the db would probably be about a foot away from the body.
And I have seen some people lift some really heavy sh*t but a 120 lbs db.... yiaks.
forgive me I may not have mentioned this in my opening post
these are HAMMER CURLS I do the 120's with
and yes it is very awkward
one time I poped myself in the cheek with the damn db
luckily it is heavy and wasn't moving up very fast so it just kinda was like a slap
and I do 3 sets of 5
first set is 5 good reps
second set is overall good but not picture perfect
third set is either as good as the first or worse then the second
just depends on how much time I have
if I have enough break time all 3 can be good sets
I do them sort of like arnold did concentration curls
I put my hand on the db rack thing and take a lean forward so I can help prevent cheating
then I just hammer curl the weight up
not in against my body but out like well like a hammer curl that isn't in against the body
being as the db's are huge I can't come up all the way so I come up to where my forearm is parrallel to the floor or a tad more
that's pretty much how high I come up on light hammer curls as well
I am 270-280 lbs depending on if I weigh myself after I eat or not
and my arms are 18" so I'm no ronnie coleman but never the less I DO CURL THE 120 LB DBS
I don't use a super strict real slow tempo or anything like that
I just curl the big dbs
I could probubly get 85 lbs 1 strict rep con curl and 95 on a supinated curl
those are estimates the heaviest sup curl I've done is 80 or 85 lbs and the heaviest con curl was 75
but my esmitates where rather modest considering only like 10 lb jumps
maybe someday if your willing to give me your adress I'll mail you a vhs of me doing a set : P
btw
does anybody belive me?
at all?
lemme know....

Not saying I don't beleive (especialy since you took all that time to post all of that). But you have to admit, that's VERY rare. And I would love to see some pics.
Well........ Pics would be the real deal, please get some !
Curling that much with 18" inch arms seems like a ton, but i think its possible if you really got into it and explained in so much detail.
I know if i had to curl 70s for 4-5 reps, im sure i could.
Tell me .... if you curl 120 lb dumbells, WHAT ON EARTH DO YOU BENCH AND DIP ?!
If the heaviest concentration curl you do with dumbells is 75 pounds how can you hammer curl 120? Most people hammer curl less than the concentration curl don't they. That is unless the hammer curl is more like a one arm row with a bit of lat help or lots of cheating.
120 on a barbell yarg! gotta work at it!
Actually I hammer curl a lot more than I can concentration curl. Their is no way anyone on this board can curl using a semi cheating motion mor than 100 pounds. Fuk, I work up to 50 pound dumbell, granted its after doing back, and Im not bragging, but my arms are just about 18 inches. Im sure if I ever decided to cut they would prob go down to 17 or so, but this is a load of **** about curling a 120 pound dumbell, pros dont even do that
I think everybody hammer curls more then they concentration curl
my bench isnt nearly so hot as my curl
dips I havn't done cus at our gym the dip thing is like a station and if there is more then 250 lbs or so doing dips the thing kinda lifts up like its tilting over
but I would imagine I could get 3-5 bodyweight dips and if I did a 1RM with dips (wich I doubt I ever would do) I think it would probubly be bodyweight + 25 lbs tops in a really strict form dip
but I weight about 275 so that's pretty good
assuming I'm correct
Close Grip bench is a tricep focused lift and I have done those recently so Ill add in my 1RM on them
265
I could get a picture of myself doing the curls easier then a video but I don't think I could hold the DB up in curl possition
it'd be a lot better if someone knew somebody that lived in Rock HIll tho
that way I wouldn't have to ask a friend to come in with me and tape me doing a set of curls
I agree it is very rare
I've only seen I think 3 people in my gym use the 120s
four if you include me
one guy did them once on flat bench
one guy did them on shoulder presses looked really awkward cus of the size fo the dbs
and one guy that uses them for inclines
he has really wide shoulders so they arn't that akward for him
when I first started hammering them I got some really weird looks
mostly people assuming I was about to hurt myself
I could probubly do more reps but my grip gives out : o (
maybe I should use wraps
Keep in mind that he did say that his forearms only go parallel.
sounds like big daddy Kane is doing those "Penitentary Hammer curls". its a momentum swing thing type movement
is seen small guys with small arms doing 70-80's lbs, worthless for muscle growth (tendon strength only) but looks impressive! in the "PEN" looks count.
none the less 120's are f*ckin'
heavy
~back to the basics~
I havnt done hammesr for a long time ......
Maybe i should stop playing with 55s and get some weight up already !!
PLEASE GET SOME PICS !
I see a guy inclining 90s , im impressed, just like i did them once :)
But seeing someone getting 120s up for 1 rep would be a site to see !!!!!!
I tend to stick to the 12oz curls.

LOL..
for barbell curls, 88lbs for about 10 reps is about my best
120pound DB hammer curls... FARK! That is quite impressive.
I don't think I sway very much
can't be sure
if I watch myself in the mirror I'm not 100% focused on the curl wich I try to be when lifting that heavy
I'll work on a pic
no idea if I'll actually get it or not
by the way I wanted to mention that I think it's pretty cowardly of eddlestep or whatever his name is to call me an idiot and a liar and then never come back to say anything else on this post after doing it
I guess he's off somewhere crying about his shattered ego?

Shut the **** up. If you've never trained with this guy then why the **** do you even care. Not saying that he is, but even if someone was lying, why would you get so friggin uptight about it. I don't see how his curl could affect you in any way.
PS I belive him. I've seen some crazy **** in m gyms, and to all you people who think 15-16 year olds cant bench or squat big, I know two 16's who have benched over 350 lbs, and squated over 400 lbs. One is 220 and the other is 190. So shut the **** up.
To the knob claiming he is doing hammer curls with the 120 lb dumbells. That, my friend is called a clean not a curl. Do you honestly think anyone on here believes that horse manure?
