Their system produces hardworking, conscientious people. I'm not sure why every time Asian education is brought up, someone dismisses it as "meh but we're more creative! "
Are you, really, though? Is the average American kid really that creative? Or did he just spend highschool and college smoking weed and drinking?
I really dislike that argument because it trivializes that tremendous amount of discipline and hard work that these kids go through.
I agree with this. The thing is, "creativity" is subjective and can't be measured accurately by test scores so how can you say for sure that we are more "creative"? The only thing for sure right now is that the students in China are vastly ahead in "rote knowledge" but creativity is up for question on both sides. One of those chinese might be just as creative or even more so...
They don't. China brought an entire country out of poverty and created a strong, solid middle class.
You only see the complaints because the ones who are most vocal about the complaints will be the ones posting about it in online forums. The ones happy about their situation won't post in anything.
It's just like how in Reddit, /r/politics is mostly filled with complaints about the US government. Because they are the vocal minority.
Are you fcking serious? They bought their country out of poverty LOL? holy ****...I fckign lived for a long time *******. And most people are still poor as fck. You truly think chinese are happy in china? If you haven't research about it yet, almost all the top government officers' relatives and child have green card or living in foreign country.
its called discipline...sonething this country needs
edit- do most of them speak chinese or mandalorian?
That's out of respect. There's a strong element of deference to authority, which is not necessarily a good thing, but it's not a bad thing either - it's far better than kids in Detroit arguing and fighting with the teacher.
It limits their critical thinking skill. I am talking about top students in universities in China as well. Not some kids.
If this this something you applaud as desirable education, you don't understand education.
And here we go with the defensive stereotypes and generalizations.
You're making generalizations. I'm speaking from my own experience.
This is a good post. I certainly don't think that the Chinese system is perfect. Like you said, there is no focus on creativity or critical thinking or the arts. However, I don't believe that the glorification of Western-style "holistic" and "creative" teaching methods is good either.
Again, like you said, the ideal is something in between. Something that is less stressful (in terms of sheer quantity) than the Chinese educational system, but more stringent than the Western educational system, with elements of creativity and critical thinking thrown in.
Agreed, and by holistic I don't mean that students should be sitting in a field of daisies as that term is generally used, but rather that it should be more well rounded.
So China is going to be full of educated people, and they are building the infrastructure to supply jobs for them. Chinese scientists have been publishing papers at an accelerated rate. The Chinese economy is on steroids. People are so preoccupied worrying about Islam and the middle eastern countries, which produce very little to no science, and turn a blind eye to the hatched dragon which is growing rapidly towards monstrous proportions.
On the other hand, the USA is starting to fall behind in certain sciences. It's detrimental to any society on Earth to not have jobs for educated scientists. Decades ago, the focus of this nation was not just on economic growth and banking, but rather primarily on technology and progress. Science was the spearhead for that growth.
China's growth will slow soon, trust me, but so will ours. I'll bet you anything that central Africa will become the new middle east for the US in the next 20 years.
where the culture puts education on a much higher level than partying, sloots, consumption etc. etc. ..am proud of my chinese brethern. these kids are the future of human kind srs.
Have you seen what China was like in the 1970s? I'm assuming not.
It was poor as hell. There was no middle class. Only the upper and lower class.
The current government, through policies that are insanely strict and crazy but nonetheless effective managed to create a solid, growing middle class out of a country with more than one billion people.
And you seriously think that they're not doing a good job?
Sure, there are undoubtedly issues with human rights and whatever the Western media deems trendy to criticize China about.
But the fact remains that the average Chinese is richer and healthier under the current government . They did a good job.
Agreed, and by holistic I don't mean that students should be sitting in a field of daisies as that term is generally used, but rather that it should be more well rounded.
This was a good, respectful debate. Remind me to rep you my measlies on RC.
Chinese people actually hate the government, they mostly take out their anger on online forums and social media.
How can they? I heard that social media is heavily monitored by the Chinese government (I don't know if this is true; even if it is, it's no more than the NSA, one might assume).
lol at the hate and calling them noncreative robots.
Nothing must work right for you then.
If you ignore the fact that the country produces a lot of fake crap, China actually has superb tech brands - the most reliable and best phone I have ever owned was a Huawei, nothing even comes to close to quality/price.
A friend got himself a Oppo phone some time ago too, I was mirin hard.
Don't diss China just because of the fake iPhones, there is plenty of good coming out of the country, and big tech companies should start paying attention.
I truly hope this is trolling because that actually rustled me hard.
What they accomplished? 80 Million dead, completely brainwashed by the government, genocide, end result being a completely ruined state. You are someone I would neg irl
hmmm.....

Proxies. And underground sites will always grow faster than the government can catch up with.

Oh shut up, education in germany now is a billion times better than America's and better than most of Europe's and we still don't want to kill ourselves or be fa or have crazy parents that will make us work like dogs. We still do well, have a great economy, get great jobs, etc. My parents were strict, i did get some beatdowns over what i was doing in my life, but i still got to go out whenever i wanted and did what i wanted. I still probably did better than you in school.
Reading that article, i feel happy to live in Germany. I'd kill myself too if i lived in that overcrowded, communist, ****-hole. No wonder ivy league schools reject so many and no wonder they say they don't want robots. Now i understand when people say that they can't think for themselves. Lawd.

China doesn't have a middle class, there still poor as ****, most of the wealth is in the hands of a select but growing few.
Riddle me this Batman, how is it that a country of over a billion people, with huge resources still is not even close to Japan in producing creative ideas, much less then the US.
China is good for one thing and one thing only, producing cheap goods, they can't even do know offs correctly.
lol at the hate and calling them noncreative robots.
A lot of it, I think, stems from insecurity.

Who cares? They're nothing more than drones, programmed to become nothing more than corporate slaves. I bet that most of them are miserable. Life is about finding a balance between work and play; all they do is work. F*ck that noise.

Both my parents came from China and i lived in hong kong for 16 years. Did they do a good job on improving the economic, only to the rich people and slightly better for the average people. Poor has remain poor. As the most potential country in terms of power, they could have done better. Seeing how lots of chinese still trying to move to foreign countries, i doubt they did a good job on developing a well balanced country. Hell, a lot of people from mainland even want to move to Hong Kong.
Also, the chinese communist party sure is fcking up Hong Kong every day.

And what do we do in America? Go through school, learning about the pilgrims for 10 years, then work in a cubicle (most of society) or some other mundane job for 40 years with little to no vacation time, then die.
