Yea, for the price....can't be beat. Tried some 21yr Elijah and wasn't a huge fan, but then again I'm not a fan of Rye style bourbons quite as much. Unfortunately with bourbon, it starts to go downhill after about 18 yrs...just doesn't age as well as Scotch.

First fay at new job, hate taking the train but theres something about heading into Boston that makes it so worth it. Rocking my wutang dress socks too, they might top my 33 jump socks lol

NOt yet....but close. Weller is same company and same mash bill as Pappy but not aged as long. Bro in law just scored a bottle of 23 yr that I'm hoping he will crack open next time I see him. Bought it for $230 but could easily sell it via for Craigs List for $1500. Pappy is good from what I have heard, but overpriced. Much better bourbons out there for the money.

Having had a huge amount of different bourbons.
Very, very few are better than Pappy.
There is a reason it's so expensive. The demand is huge because it's ungodly.
Weller is great, but it's not Pappy.
Trust me, I know Bourbon. I even have a small barrel of bourbon aging in my garage. It's a DYI kit I bought.

Right on. Well, you know how to get ahold of me when you decide to crack open that barrel that is aging in your garage :)
Told a buddy of mine about my brother in law's Pappy purchase and this is what he told me:
"It's definitely rare and hard to come by... But, it's not my fave. Personally I believe it to be over aged and overpriced, the 12 yr. Lot B Van Winkle Family Reserve and the Pappy Van Winkle 15yr. Are where it's at for my money. There just comes a certain point where the longer it sits on wood isn't always the right answer. Scotch is a different story. Typically 15-18 yrs. is the threshold for American whiskey if you ask me. There are of course exceptions. (I've had Very Very Old Fitzgerald from 1959 from the Wirtz Family Reserve and it was amazing) however, I don't believe Pappy 23yr. Is one of em. Not with all the hype, inflated prices, and the conversely better and cheaper whiskies from that annual release, which consists of: Old Rip 10yr. 107 Van Winkle Family Reserve 12 yr. Lot B Van Winkle Family Reserve 13yr. Rye (Becoming even more scarce) Pappy 15,20,23 These all come out in the same annual collection at the same exact time. Speaking from experience and having verticals on all of these marks in my collection from the last 4 years... I only have 1 bottle of the Pappy 23 and that was given to me as a wedding gift in 2010. You should definitely be there when it's tapped into it is a special experience to say the least!! I would be excited too if I had never had it, especially with all the hype that the veracious appetite for old Whiskey brings from the American public. Pappy is synonymous with it. You also have to understand the company I keep is that of an entire world surrounded by alcohol due to my job with Wirtz Beverage. For instance I was at the EVP's house last week for a party and he pulled out unopened bottles of Pappy 15,20,and 23 and was ice luging the 15yr. into shots for guests before handing all three bottles to the bartender he hired... Declaring "use these to make Old Fashioned's for everyone" which he did. And every drop was consumed...in cocktails! So, perspective..."
I want my buddy's job....

Yea the Pappy 15 is my favorite.
The 23 is still better than 99% of the bourbon on the market.
It's shame that you don't enjoy Rye. Whistle Pig is fantastic.
As for scotch I really like Famous Grouse. The best blended scotch I've ever had is Johnnny Walker Blue Label.
My little barrel I got is a Woodenville kit. I've used it before, but right now I got a bottle of White Dog (buffalo trace pre-barrel aging) it should be pretty good once I take out this winter.

I'll still drink Rye bourbon (Bulleit isn't bad) just don't like it as much as Wheated. Famous Grouse isn't bad for a blended. But you need to drink more Scotch if you think that is your favorite :p For the price, try Speyburn. It is only about $23/bottle and is a single malt. It isn't award winning, but isn't bad for the price. Other than that, I really enjoy any of the Glen Fiddichs. For the price, they can't be beat in my opinion. Been awhile since I have drank Scotch though. Ever since I started getting into bourbon, it has consumed me lol

Yea I'm big on bourbon. I love Scotch, but bourbon to me is the best.
Glenfidditch is good stuff. I"m big on Macallan and Glenlivet as well. I know DGStallion was hooked on Laphroaig.
