Meanwhile Harvard takes down the American flag and puts up a Palestine flag. How unpatriotic.

Does that mean they are supporting the Palestinians that started the war by invading Israel and killing 1140 civilians on October 7th? Seems shameful.

Means that Harvard supports Iran and Hamas by proxy. Harvard is on the wrong team and yes, it is shameful.
I am sure there are a couple here that turn a blind eye and say it's not true.

I overheard a UT anti-Israel student ask a buddy if Israel shared a border with Iowa.
His buddy laughed and said, No silly. Israel is between Arkansas and Georgia

Protestors occupy Hamilton Hall

I wonder how many actual students are involved at this point. If they are, good chance they have thrown their lives away for something i doubt they really understand.
The government of Israel and the IDF are committing genocide and their propaganda is getting exposed. We're seeing the proof in front of our eyes on social media. Why do you think the IDF wants to approve any video the US media wants to take when they're in Gaza? Nuke Hamas and the Iran government all day long but to kill thousands of innocent people along with them is genocide. Even Christians in Israel are protesting this and they're getting attacked by the IDF.

Funny most of the LIBERAL/WOKE/LGBTQ protestors have no idea a Palestinian would cut off their head and chit down their neck for the believes

F'ck 'em. Seriously. Your last sentence is one of the reasons why I can't understand why you would sympathize with these idiots. I think you are smart enough to know that most probably couldn't identify Gaza on a map before these protests. It is an exciting diversion from their mundane routine of attending classes with the added high of being morally superior to everyone else. Unfortunately for them, like most really good highs, this one will crash hard.
As a side note, this kind of idiocy is one of the many reasons why I will never give Columbia a cent despite their repeated requests for donations.

^^This is one of the most ironic aspects of this whole thing. When you see nonsense like "LGBTQ+ stands with the Palestinian people!", they don't seem to understand that if they were in Gaza, they would be tied up and thrown off a building....or beheaded and thrown in a ditch somewhere.

I agree there are people on both sides don't really know the basics of the conflict, they just want the social and ego virtue points of being very political. But protest groups aren't homogeneous and colleges do have a mix of international students who help to humanize the situation and motivate other students to protest.
I think it’s a bit dismissive to say that a good number of these kids are unaware of the geopolitical issues, but many do seem to view this from an “Oppressor vs Opressee” standpoint. They view this through the lens of Colonialism, and they just don’t know enough about the history of the region to understand that such a framing isn’t the total picture.
Colleges should be purged of radical professors who teach students what to think and not how to think and who are anti-Israel and who indoctrinate their anti-Israel hate in class to influence soft-headed students.
Most of the protestors do not know what they are protesting about, as in pure ignorance. There is virtually no acknowledgement of October 7, which was basically Israel's 9/11. Massive-scale Group Think, which is extremely powerful, much like being a Swifty, takes over and grows like wild-fire.
Anti-Israel leaders were and have been in place for years and took this as an opportunity to create chaos. Kind of like George Floyd riots where outside professional organizations and governments fuel the fire with their professional rioters who are on the payroll to create more division and who are paid to turn protests into riots.

True! I know Jewish people opposed to the continued action.
It's a perfectly valid and growing opinion that Israel has the right to defend itself and was justified in attacking Hamas command centres and tunnels and rescuing hostages (about 130 unaccounted for still - and Hamas still aren't returning them). But the benefit of continued military action has become hugely outweighed by the civilian cost and they need to stop. It is now counter productive to Israel. I even listened to an interview with Ehud Olmer saying that (a previous Israeli Prime Minister)
The problem with these demonstrations is a lot of the people on them don't have a clue why they are protesting beyond some YouTube "news" propaganda they watched and many demos are organised by pro Hamas/anti Israeli groups, so these kids may be inadvertently supporting Hamas and antisemitic causes by attending
As a father of two college freshman and two more going through the application process I think colleges are just too superficial in how they evaluate applicants. A's + lots of extracurriculars + high test scores = acceptance.
Because of grade inflation in high schools, being thoughtful and understanding things at a deeper level doesn't really help you after a certain point- because you can't get more than an A.
It's better to absorb and regurgitate enough information for an A, and then spend all your energy on extracurriculars. Which is basically what activists do - so it makes sense that elite college students gravitate to it.
I am not sure the fix but I agree we need to do a better job of preparing students to have a complex understanding of what they're learning and why.

Except now a lot of colleges and universities are not even requiring test scores anymore (including Columbia)....which certainly doesn't help if you are attempting to identify smart(er) kids.

I know many of the test optional schools are going back to requiring scores starting with the 2029 class. I know it was partly due to Covid but many moved away thinking they hurt disadvantaged students. Even though placing more weight on extracurriculars disadvantages students from low income households even more as they cannot afford to start a nonprofit/do a service trip/do unpaid research/play expensive sports etc.
Maybe if they counted extracurricular the way it makes sense to; can this person juggle extra responsibilities and time pressures AND be academically accomplished? do they show leadership skills? There is no reason a part time job that has management happy with a candidate should actually be less impressive than, like, kayaking or falconry.

Yeah, the whole hurting disadvantaged kids is largely a myth. They reveal deficiencies -- they don't create them in the form of bias as many have erroneously asserted. I suspect there are good reasons why many universities are going back to the tests. But, you do raise excellent points with respect to extracurriculars -- I agree 100%.

A quote from Columbia officials state that they "regret" having to take this action. This is exactly the weak mindset that got them into this situation. There should be zero tolerance for breaking laws and intimidating other students. Instead of negotiating, they should have brought in the cops immediately, arrested the students, and used the full force of the law to prosecute them.

Why is this such a big deal to you guys?
Some pain in the azz university students lock themselves in a fancy building used by a university. All they're doing is obstructing the people they hope to award them their degree. It's not like they're blocking anything in the "real" world.
(This is where the academic contribs here neg me ;) )

Yeah ok....
You are ignorant to what is really happening.

There is more at play here than just a few students protesting..
Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
The entire BDS movement is wild to me. Companies on their list like Google, Amazon, Intel, Apple , Hewlett Packard, etc… are essentially in every person’s 401k and every ETF these universities own. Getting universities to cut all ties, direct and indirect, with Israel is not going to happen, so these kids are protesting for something that will never happen and they themselves have most likely benefited from for a very long time.
