in for answers
In my country it's not respected and low payed. Usa/canada I'd say yeah, you can make a career depends on you though how hard working are you etc, advancing ranks, I'd like to be detective or some security for presidents etc :)
As long as your record is squeaky clean and you enjoy helping people, for sure.

Check and check
brb you are negged to red by conspiracy theorists and cop haters on the misc.
btw, a career is only as good as you allow it. so you need to tell yourself, would you enjoy it ?
can make a pretty good salary with rank and overtime, great pensions, but depending on alot of factors (location/department/etc) your days can be miserable and dangerous or relatively awesome. i was strongly considering getting into that but ive heard that if you've done hard drugs in the past it disqualifies you :(
If you're in an area where you can get in it wouldn't be bad. I've had buddies trying for years and they haven't been able to get on. One buddy of mine graduated with a bachelors in criminal justice with a 4.0gpa and it took him 3 years before he found a job in law enforcement. GL OP.
Always thought it would be a nice job

We're gonna make it brah. Clean record.. haven't even got pulled over. Serious.
But like the other brah said above me.. it's tough down here in the states to get in, depending where you are. I'm finishing up my Associates in CJ and plan on looking around.. worst comes to worst, I may hop into the military to get that military background.
yes
It's hard as all chit to get your foot in the door. Plus pay really isn't that great. But it's a good career if you've got the qualifications and connections.

If you're one of the good ones, then yes I would think so.
Its probably tough mentally just from having most people dislike/distrust you, and you have to see some bad things, and usually the worst humanity has to offer..
But if you're strong enough I'd say its probably very rewarding.

inquire at your local department and tell them that you're strongly interested in becoming an officer and see if you can talk to some officers about the job and possibly arrange a ride-along
if you're in Law enforcement, fire fighter or emt they have a foreclosure home buying plan now where you can buy HUD homes for 50% of asking price with only $100 down. brb becoming a police officer, fire fighter or EMT real quick and buy a 500k home for 250k. sell for full price & profit.

Ya good money , saw rcmp first year is 60. Third year make up to 90 k
In the USA. They don't make shyt. There are WAY better and Easyier ways to make WAY more money.
It gets old for most. I've been doing it 11 and it's old. Some days are better than others. It's still just a job and we're just humans. Research the department you want to join extensively.
www.officer.com check their forums, do ride-a-longs, whatever you can.
Also, I'm stuck in a large department with a lot of issues promoting. A lot of lawsuits saying the tests were racist and whatnot. 11 years and no one from my class or 2-3 years above me (let alone those below) have been promoted. The test is very heavily weighted for seniority. There has only been one test given during my 11 years. I had 7 years at the time and no one with less than 10 made the promotional list.
Some departments make 60-70k for an officer alone. Get promoted and get raises of usually 5k for each rank.
depends where you live id imagine.
both my parents were police sergeants who made 125k a year. Both retired now dads 53 moms 54. They still have really good benefits even after retirement and a good pension.
Thats the field I'm planning on going in to.
Depending on where you work you can make a decent amount of money. PA State Troopers start at $59k and move up from there. The pay scale goes all the way up past $100k for guys who are high rank. Plus troopers can retire after 25 years with a 75% pension.
Not bad.

Ya I'm going to a seminar in Jan, try and get a ride along.

from what I've heard from parents all this applies too, so i guess its a universal thing. My dad says he really liked the people he worked with and got lucky that his direct co workers were good people, but he worked in forensics and said that when he retired he was glad he wouldn't get called in the middle of the night to look at dead people anymore.
when i asked him if he thought that i should become a cop he told me that if he could go back in time he would have become a fire fighter instead.
