Castor Oil Joint Repair
hey guys!
i have been telling everyone for a few yrs now about useing castor oil packs on viable joints to aid in healing and mobility of the joints you use it on
for me it has solved some pretty sever joint pain that even cissicuss couldnt touch.
the obvious cantidates for this treatment are knees/elbows/wrists/ankles/shoulders/lower back
the reason i am writing this log is because recently i stained my right elbow. i have been a carpenter my whole life so i think this is probably an overuse issue. now let me say though, its been two yrs almost to date since i performed a castor pack on it so i must say this is for me the most compelling reason to do this. now when i say strained it feels like your arms after a good arm session , you know the kind, were you cant bend your arms the next day.
the only difference is i cant use my elbow with out extreme pain. so its gotten me so frustrated..(its been two weeks of sever pain and no use.)
so like any log i will tell you how well it works for me this time around, snd with any luck i will be healed in about a week!
so heres the protocol:
rub castor oil onto effected area at night before bed. cover the area with celophane, and ace bandage if desired. this does two things. first and most important.. it protects your sheets and clothes from being ruined. (this stuff is thick and nasty.. they used to make kids drink a tablespoon to cure constipation.) it doesnt even wash off your hands very well after application. next, it helps to keep the effected area warm thus allowing more asorbtion into the skin.
thats it.. wake up take it off and hit the shower or rub off the remaining oil with a dish towel.
so i started my healing last night.. 1 pack down .. a few more to go.
pain level this morning : 9/10
mobility of joint: 4/10

day2
welcome abord!
this morning i awake to a horror..... snow.
actually this is really bad timing as im responsible for snow removal with my company.
i will have to be carful not to agrvate my arm ... i will probably double down on ace bandages.
well i applied as usual last night...rubbed on the castor oil wraped with plastic and then i added an ace bandage to imobilise my arm. i awake this morning after another night of unusual dreams (im on triazole). so my bandge was all jacked up as i must have been tossing and turning.
this morning brings some relif.
pain 6/10
mobility of joint 6/10
i can almost flexx my bicep fully this morning!
-
day3
this morning was no joke. im sore. the pain radiates all the way from my wrist to the top of my shoulder. i had hoped this would have not been the case but with yesterdays snowfall my arm took a beating.
that and i think i kinda slept on it bent. (wife was hoggin the bed last night)
so while i had some mild improvements yesterday its much more sore today.
still i have had great sucess in the past with this so im toughing it out a few more days.
also tried to swim this morning but by the 8th lap it proved to be too much so i capitulated.
pain 8/10
mobility 6/10
-
day 4
deffinatley still sore..i actually wrapped my arm up tight last night to try and keep it more strait through out the night. is about 10 am and its finally starting to lossen up. ive been to the gym arleady so its had some time to move around a bit.
i think i will stay off the inversion table for a few days while im healing. i think it msy be part of the problem.
pain 6/10
mobility 6.5/10
-
day 5
Finally... im feeling some reprieve. i woke this morning in much less pain. my castor packs are starting to pay off! i was worried that i had full out reinjured it this week with the snow rermoval and all. alas just like anything worth while persistance is starting to pay off.
pain 3/10 still a little sore yet.
mobility 7/10
-
Day 6
i woke up today with very little pain. i actually slept very well last night too.
at this point i can almost make my bicep flex fully with out much pain. its not perfect yet so i plan to keep applying to the effected area nightly until i feel no pain.. if i rotate my palm outward (supinate) i still get a little pain but bending my arm is no longer an issue.
i thought too i would share my total cost for treatment.
1 bottle of castor oil 6 dollars
2 ft of celophane per night... 1 cent
yep this is about as cost effective as it gets and the time frame for effects is much better than any pill i have taken ... some of wich take a month jsust to see results.
pain: 1/10
mobility 8/10
-
day 7
today was a decent mornign. pain was about the same as yesterday and the mobility was only slightly worse... until i went to the gym.. now the elbow is all loosened up and feels pretty damn good..
i do cardio in the mornings and today i finished with 20 laps in the pool. the other day i couldnt even do half that before the pain in my arm got too bad.
heres hopeing tomarrow shows continued progress after workign that arm today.
pain: 1/10
mobility: 7.5/10
-
day 8
hey everyone.
today is a good day! i am all but pain free and mobility seems to be healthily restored
i can get a full flex in my bicep now for the first time in 4 weeks.
that alone makes me very happy
i plan to wrap the elbow for a couple more days and continue to take it easy on that joint for a minimum of a couple more weeks
pain 0/10
mobility 8.5/10
flexibility 8.5/10
-
Wow thats awesome. I have a little shoulder pain and might look into this. Do you recommend a certain brand or will the Walgreens brand do.

any brand will do in fact id try to find the cheapest you can!!
oh and BTW... it worked wonders on my torn rotator cuff!! i can literally press like i want to again.. i still warm up carefully though , just to be safe!
-
day 9
pain free today again.. felt good even after returning to the pool and the inversion table.
both things would have been far too painfull last week. today i even felt like picking up some dumb bells... i think i will resist the urge tho for a couple more days.
if i really really supinate hard i can just feel the slightest residual effects from the strained tendons.. right at the elbow on the back side.. forearm pain is gone completely now.
pain: 0/10
mobility: 9/10
flexibilty: 9.5/10
hey brewcity, let me know how it works for you and your shoulder joint! GL and remember give it the time it needs to heal..
i had hoped for 3-5 days but it took a little longer for me this time sooo.....
-
I think I love you....;). I can't wait to give it a try. My shoulder/elbow has always bugged me, I'm sure the surgeries and years of throwing don't help.
I have a very limited range of motion and it constantly feels tight, prevents me from doing a lot of things. Thanks for the heads up tho.
-
day 10
nothing new to report... same thing as yesterday pretty much..
i curled the full coffee pot for 10 reps with out spillin tho! :P
-
day 11
today my arm feels almost perfect. i consider this the end of the log.
hope every one gives this a shot next time they have a poor joint, sretched or torn ligaments, rotator cuffs.. ect ect
seems to work wonders and is so cheap to do.
of course now i plan to train arms next monday. i will report back if any pain flairs up but at this point i feel it will be completely 100% healed by then!
-
I'm going to be taking your word for it, brotha!! I'm going to run over to walgreens right now and get some castor oil.
So how much do you do apply? And you wrap it immediately after... is this before bed? My area of pain is my shoulder. I'm sorry if you detailed how you apply and wrap everything above - I read the first post, scrolled down and kept seeing your pain levels drop and got too excited and posted before reading everything!
How does this method compare to the topical glucosacream? I'm also taking some glucosamione+chondroitin w/ MSM once a day to aid in joint repair.
edit** went back and read this part 'so heres the protocol:
rub castor oil onto effected area at night before bed. cover the area with celophane, and ace bandage if desired. this does two things. first and most important.. it protects your sheets and clothes from being ruined. (this stuff is thick and nasty.. they used to make kids drink a tablespoon to cure constipation.) it doesnt even wash off your hands very well after application. next, it helps to keep the effected area warm thus allowing more asorbtion into the skin.'
thanks op

This is exciting stuff. its cheap everywhere. imma get some stat!
-
i apply it pretty liberally.. you dont want the stuff dripping or anything. but dont be too shy.
BTW current up date...
still feel great, no pain at all and i have been back to useing as usual. arm day is friday i will report back after that session.. for cardio i did rowing on the machine today.. and while my arm got wore out fast it doesnt hurt at all.
-
i wanted to report back.. i had said i was to work arm on friday but it didnt happen.
no first let me say that i have had 0 pain and full range of movement. i even was able to decline presses this week all together was ready for arms yesterday.. that is until i tried digin a hole with both a shovel and diggin bar. that thing weighs about 35 lbs wich is far more weight i ever would have used lifting weights being the first time in several months. anyhow i didnt notice at first.. i probably had the bar in my hand 20-30 mins before i realised the thing was really pissin off my elbow! anyhow i quit diggin right away and moved onto other stuff on my agenda.. anyhow 8 hrs latr my elbow felt seized up i oh boy i was in pain
i imdeiately came home from work and wrapped my elbow up ... i didnt sleep much last night... but frankly.. i feel fine today. arm is as if nothing happened. so i think it must have been more of inflamation from absurd overuse of a diggin bar followed with a sustained pum i seem to be experiencing from triazole wich is a welcome side effect.
anyhow i think i will hit arms tomarrow as long as i feel ok .. i do not plan to do much more than go through the motions until i know for sure what its gona be like.
i will report back tomarrow.

dude I wrapped my shoulder covered in castor oil the other night and shat my brains out the next day! Did this happen to you too since it's a laxative?!

lol no never.. but hey dont give up... cause that has to be a coincidence.. its only a laxitive when you swollow it
-
first arm day back.
ok well i finally had the first full arm day in close to 4 weeks.. in fact as the pain set in i was still training heavy if i remeber, so for me thatd be like 45Db curls for 3-4 sets and then drag curls and then preachers..mixed with triceps then usualy a supper set or two. usually takes 45 mins to do a full arm day.
anyhow.. was able to settle into a pair of 22.5s and complete a nice if relitively low weight work out.. good flexibilty through out.. and im happy to report i feel remarkably good in the elbow today. i doubt i will get much from the lift last night but each day back in the gym working arms is another day forward back to being completely healed!

Hey Ripp3r
Where'd you hear about this? The reason I ask is because i thought ive looked up EVERYTHING and I've never heard about this. What does the castor oil do and how does it work? Also I have a bulged disc do u think it would help a bulged disc in my lower back?

Nice...
I've got severe left elbow pain. I know its from over use...been about 3 weeks now. But I can't tell exactly what's affected...only that its on the outer portion of the left elbow joint.
I'm a huge fan of home remedies and I think this may work. So imma give it a shot. I know it works too for cleaning out the ol colon...lol. A little too well actually.

Started this protocol on monday night for my elbow tendonitis that has been bugging me for 9-12 months. I get pain in the very tip of my elbow on all types of tricep extensions and heavy presses with a barbell. Neither supercissus rx + joint force + orange triad + curcumin has not been enough to deal with the problem, although i do beleive it alleviates the pain slightly. I'll report back in a few weeks when I determine if this helps at all, I must admit I'm somewhat skeptical but am trying almost everything before I accept I have to take a large amount of time off (have done 2-3 weeks before to no avail) and watch my triceps wither away.

go for it! try it out. at least if it doesnt work for you it will not have cost you much money.
AND if it doesnt work for one joint it very well may do wonders for others so its deffinately a good thing to have in your arsenal.
let us know if it helps your arm feel better!

For $5 for castor oil, I'm willing to give this a try. I have rotator cuff tendinitis from an injury 4 months ago. I have nothing to lose... plus I already have been using a heating pad, so I'm just adding some sticky oil in there!
-
just give it time you will be amazed~

Just mentioned this to my girlfriend, she tells me her sister who is into home remedies has been using castor oil on the joints of her horses and animals from everything from swelling to arthritis. some kinda weed also called comfry that you make into a plaster .. going to try the castor oil for my tennis elbow asap.
