I got a prescription for methylphenidate and I was wondering if it would help me lose weight.
yeah. so does meth
yeah. so does meth
Yea but meth is extremely dangerous. I'm takin a normal dose of Ritalin every day for ADD.
ritalin is a form of a methamphetamine...................i wouldn't mess wiht it
ritalin is a form of a methamphetamine...................i wouldn't mess wiht it
hahahahhaa no it isn't.
Methylphenidate is related to amphetamine, it's not a form of methamphetamine you dumb****. Also, all of the aforesaid are of the phenylethylamine family, so by your logic am I to believe that the popular OTC supplement PEA is dangerous as well?

I'm sorry i misquoted myself it's an Amphetamine otherwise a stimulant based medication used to increase dopamine levels in the brain.........you can get high on it too, trust me.................exercise and diet will get that weight lost you are looking for

Well I'm taking it no matter what, it's for ADD. And yes when I take it I do get a weird feeling in my brain, kind of unnerving actually. Similar to weed in fact.
But I guess it can decrease the appetite like other stims.
I got a prescription for methylphenidate and I was wondering if it would help me lose weight.
Yeah, any stimulant can aid in fat loss.
yeah. so does meth
So does caffeine. So does ephedrine. So does yohimbine. So does geranamine...etc etc. What's your point?
ritalin is a form of a methamphetamine...................i wouldn't mess wiht it
No, its not.

Methylphenidate is a phenylethylamine. Just as ephedrine and amphetamine are. It is not amphetamine however.

Thanks I didn't think it was an amphetamine. So it's considered a phenylethylamine. Thanks.
Probably has better bioavailability than PEA
Ritalin is harsh stuff. It's been shown to increase brain aging. Definitely not a good thing.

Phenylethylamines are a class of drugs. They have very different effects and should not necessarily be considered the same even though they have similar structure. For instance, all of the following are phenylethylamines:
PEA
Ephedrine
Pseudoephedrine
Amphetamine
Synephrine
Methamphetamine
Methylphenidate
Dexedrine
Extacy (MDMA)
Mescaline
Most are stimulants, some are hallucinogenic.
Ritalin @ 21?? Really?

just got a script from the doc after not using anything for 4 years. I figure if it helps then it's worth taking.

dexedrine is d-amphetamine
It's effectiveness probably stems mostly from the anorectic effect. I'm sure there are some safer alternatives that would be comparable.
I got a prescription for methylphenidate and I was wondering if it would help me lose weight.
In short, YES.
Your appetite will be thoroughly suppressed.
From the reports I have read, it would seem that there is indeed a initial decrease in appetite with an initial fat loss, but this seems to be transient in nature and your body will quickly adopt and level off.

I wouldn't take it for it's fat loss effects. Just wondering if it has any, since I WILL be taking it.
I guess a little appetite suppression ain't bad.

Prolly not why you were prescribed it, but yeah, weight loss is a side.
whats yours?
That comparing it to methamphetamine is stupid and not at all relevant to the topic.
Man, I was on Methylphenidate from the age of 8 to 19. I became so dependent on it, and after a while, I realized it wasn't helping me that much in school. Yeah, you focus more, but you focus on the WRONG STUFF a lot of the time. I now have the most insane tolerance to stimulants and kicking the Ritalin/Concerta habit was one of the most miserable experiences ever.
Do yourself a favor. Before you start taking the stuff, look into Nootropics. There are a lot of over-the-counter, natural substances that do amazing things for your mind other than Methylphenidate and Dexamphetamine (********).
Check out products from the -racetam family, like Piracetam, Oxiracetam, Aniracetam, etc. They basically ramp up your brain's usage of choline and glucose. I've heard AMAZING things about a Piracetam/Choline Bitartrate stack. If you have a little extra cash, consider Oxiracetam stacked with Alpha-GPC (the best form of Choline available).
A -racetam/choline stack is a great base, and then you can add plenty of great natural nootropics, including:
-Vinpocetine (improves memory/focus)
-Ginko Biloba (sends blood flow to brain)
-Huperzine-A (inhibits the enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine)
-Rhodiola Rosea (has been shown to improve academic performance)
-Glucuronolactone
and I would REALLY recommend looking into these two:
-Sulbutiamine/Thiamine Disulfide. It's a version of Vitamin B1 that is touted to have amphetamine-like effects, and the primary ingredient in BioTest SPIKE. Read a little about it and TRY not to get excited about it, it's a very interesting substance that's actually healthy for you.
-Phenylethylamine. Methylphenidate is a member of the PEA family, so they're sort of similar.
I can say with full honesty, having years and years of experience with Methylphenidate, the CLOSEST things I have ever had to Ritalin/Concerta are Phenylethylamine, and a Sulbutiamine/Caffeine combination. I got that initial mood lift and euphoria rush, but rather sinking into that weird, antisocial, overstimulated tunnel vision state, I remained in an upbeat, social, positive mood.
Methylphenidate changes you. You'll find yourself obsessed about stupid things like writing lists for no apparent reason. IMO there are healthier, natural things out there that could potentially be more effective than a super-powerful CNS stimulant like Methylphenidate. Before you medicate yourself, take a look at what's available to you through natural means, please take it from someone who wishes he had that option.

Google it. You'll find plenty of studies
